Stupid

Overrated:
Judas Priest, Accept, pretty much all "classic" heavy metal except for Iron Maiden. IMO it's just glorified hard rock and not that good.

Underrated:
Trivium: talking about the underground metal community.
Mastodon: a lot of people like 'em but I love 'em.

Stupid. Judas Priest is always awesome and Iron Maiden isn't half bad either. Accept 'Balls to the Wall' is a classic; the rest is simply decent. I don't know what other bands you're thinking of but I'm sure they aren't that overrated. And Trivium aren't liked because they lack originality and their music generally sucks.

I agree with the_voice besides Meshuggah being on his list.

Which isn't an explanation. Kirk Hammett is an awesome guitarist. The leads he played on the first four albums are some of the best ever. He is honestly the best part of Metallica.

Yea... but nowadays he suck. Ugly vibrato, he is not stable live, he drowns everything in his wahwah, he plays sloppy.

I usually try to avoid any confrontations here on this site, but this my good sir is the worst post I have ever read.

Overrated:
Mastodon - I just dont get these guys, i saw them live and they were pretty cool but not cool enough for me to get "into" them

Testament - crucify me now, I liked the new album, but a lot of Testament seems boring to me

Toxik Holocaust - a lot better than that shit which is Trivium, but they are very popular in the "underground" world and they are by far the worst new thrash band


Underrated:
Tankard - 'cause they rule

Vendetta - the "smartest" thrash band to come out of germany

Angel Witch - first album is awesome

oh i forgot testament... I own 4 albums by them. 3,5 of them is shit.

Overrated:
Blind Guardian - Pretty boring band to me. I've never liked a full album by them and it wasn't until Nightfall that I started to like some of their songs. Since then they've had about one or two good songs per album. I don't hate them, I just don't see what's so special about them. Though, the new song they did for Sacred 2 did sound good from the short clip I've heard and Hansi said this will be the direction the band is taking for their next album.

Hansi Kursch - Well, since I dislike BG it's only natural I dislike him aswell. IMO, he doesn't have a great range or anything special in his voice. I've seen a few live BG songs and he was just terrible. I'm left with the impression it's all studio magic.

Angra with Andre Matos - It's just your typical power metal here. Why is everyone praising them when the stuff they did with Edu is so much better.

Hammerfall - Glory To The Brave may have revitalized metal when it came out (as stated in the review) but that's about the only thing it did. Boring and repetitive band stuck in '97 releasing the same album over and over. And don't try bringing up Korpiklaani for the same reason.

Underrated:
Pagan's Mind - Great band that just doesn't receive the attention they deserve.

Diablo - Same as the above. Not sure how many people outside Finland knows them, though I think this is the bands fault for signing with a shitty label. They also suffer from poor distribution. Thank goodness Aleksie is on the team otherwise this site wouldn't have a single Diablo review.

Finntroll - I only want more Finntroll love on this site.

Yeah a lot of people dont like them actually, i honestly dont know why since theyre one of my favorites bands, about ten years ago me and my cousin were very hooked on Power Metal, we had been listening to Heavy and Thrash metal for a while but we were recently discovering the euro PM scene, our tastes were very similar so i trusted him when he said tha BG were shit so i passed on them, but one day i went alone to the record store, i got some money on me and i was decided to get a record, i browsed the shelves and nothing really grabbed my attention but then i saw Nightfall In Middle Earth (probably not the best BG album to start with) and thought what the heck it cant be that bad, so i went home with it, started listening to it and i honestly didnt like it, something wasnt right, the melodies seemed awkward and the hooks were nowhere to be found but then i think it was when the track Noldor ended that suddenly i was starting to "get" the album, and on my second listen i was already hooked, the guitar melodies, Hansi's voice, everything sounded so fresh, so original and so catchy that i still wonder why i didnt like it the first time around, it felt like the first time i listened to Maiden, next week i went to the store and bought "Imaginations From the Other Side" I've been a Blind Guardian fan ever since, my cousin who is a huge PM fan still doesnt like them, i guess theyre not for everyone but for me theyre one of the best bands around.



I honestly think that the best Angra album is Holy Land, i dont see how is that a typical power metal album, the stuff with Edu is also good though.

I think John 5 is probably the most underrated guitar player in the metal world.

Yeah, he is really really skilled. I think his image kind of ruins it for him.

Agreed on Blind Guardian, those vocals is just torturing me.

chill. Painkiller owns but I don't like anything else by Judas Priest (admittedly Painkiller is the newest thing I've heard by them...heh heh) and I don't even think PK is one of the greatest albums ever. I'll stick to my comment about other "classic" metal bands like Motley Crue, AC/DC, Accept, etc. though. And Trivium isn't great, they're decent, but they are underrated because they're not shit like everyone says. As for Mastodon, they're probably not underrated but they are good.

AC/DC is hard rock, Motley Crue is hard rock, but Accept is metal, and great heavy metal.
