Never heard anything by these guys before, not even their Metallica covers, but today I heard the songs "Farewell" and "Faraway" and I was...well, not blown away, but pretty damn close! Very beautiful and unique music.

I know they have changed quite a lot throughout their career, but the aforementioned songs are both instrumental songs that start slow and gradually builds until they reach a huge climax in the end. It's quite hard to explain, but they manage to sound sad and somewhat uplifting at the same time.

So, if this band has any fans on this board I would love to know if they have a whole albums with songs like those two :)

I'm not sure. I own one of their albums, but I couldn't even tell you the name of it. I like them, but I think they get boring really fast.

The new album's vocal tracks are piss poor compared to the older ones. Methinks those songs are from "Reflections" though, which is a great album.

I'm going to see them again in December, they do a great live show so I'd advise anyone else the same :).

Apocalyptica was good until they started using vocals and shit. The album where they first began using a drummer was AMAZING, and then everything past that has just been downhill.

Agreed. Personally I only like their first three albums ("Plays Metallica by Four Cellos", "Cult" and "Inquisition Symphony").

They don't use the vocal tracks live, and as such are much MUCH better lol.

I haven't really listened to their newer stuff so I can't say if the new songs are good or bad, but I can say that I still listen to Apocalyptica a couple times a week. Good shit.

These guys are more of a gimmick than anything. It's cool when you first listen to them, I'll admit, but terribly boring thereafter.

So I'm going to go see them in September. Are they amusing to watch for an hour?

I would say amusing is the right word. I don't go to gigs for the comedy value. They do banter a bit with the crowd and put some effort in though.

Bull. I've been listening to them for years.

Well, I found out that "Reflections" was the album where they started using a drummer, and the "Faraway" is on that album, so I think I will start with that one. Thanks for the help :dio:

Adding the drummer made them awesome. They only got bad with their lame guest vocalists.

Ugh. That song they did with Corey Taylor is awful. Sounds like an attempt at mainstream rock that was mainstream 5 years ago.

They don't use the vocal tracks live, and as such are much MUCH better lol.

They also can't use their studio chicanery to make the cellos sound like guitars which is a plus.

+1

The best way to make a cello-based metal band become lame and pointless is to try and make the cellos sound like guitars.
