I say this is definitely the best opeth record to date. Yeah you fags, not still life, not blackwater park but this. The main problem I had with the aforementioned albums and the rest (I do love them) is that they don't flow like this one does. The dynamics are amazing. They are much better songwriters now and Akerfeldt has definitely improved greatly on both his clean singing and growls.

Wow, this album's already out? I've gotta listen to this either this week or next week!

silly goose, My Arms Your Hearse is the best Opeth album.

anyways i like Watershed a lot, Mikael's clean singing sounds better than ever which makes "Coil" and "Burden" totally awesome (even though Burden is probably the cheesiest thing they've done) and i love the woodwinds that appear throughout the album and so forth. i haven't listened to it all that much though, only like 7 times since it leaked over 2 months ago.

By the way, after doing a little research, I saw that this album reached #23 on the Billboard 200. Congrats Opeth!

Coincidentally, I listened to Blackwater Park just yesterday. The perfect album to listen to when you're coming home from a vacation. :)

Burden cheesy? I don't understand....It's great

People expect the greatest metal album of all time whenever opeth releases a new disc...The band is always changing, not one album is alike and they are all unique and great..They have really progressed and matured over the years...With this new lineup Akerfeldt and friends have really blown me away.

9 albums...What band has 9 amazing albums? It's Mind Boggling.

I like this one the only problem I have is it seems to be over quick. Was impressed with the length of the footage on the dvd was a good insight of the new album and members. They really are consistent with the quality of each album which makes it pretty hard to say which is best. But I haven't heard their earlier stuff only have Still Life on.

If its too short for you, then buy the special edition that has 3 extra tracks on the dvd that also has the making of Watershed.
These are some pretty good tracks. The only minor con about it is that all 3 are sung cleanly with no harsh vocals at all.

I think opeth is trying to get away from the harsh vocals. watershed has very little growls compared to their other albums minus damnation.

They're getting older, mellowing out. Sooner or later they'll break up, or become something like Anathema. It happens.

I haven't picked this up yet, but band's that put bonus tracks on DVDs are retarded.

I just about like this better than Ghost Reveries. The first three tracks are some of the best stuff they've done. "Running through the fields of sorrow," is a shockingly bad line, mind.

Heir Apparent might be my favourite Opeth song, next to The Moor. One thing about Watershed I think that made it sound so great is the new drummer. Lopez (he was the drummer, right?) had a great feel to his drumming, and it really had some great latin rythyms. But something about modern Opeth + old-school death metal drumming = AWESOME!

it's a great song, but it's soaked in over the top ballad cheese

i don't think i'd say that Opeth are calming down. there's less death vocals on the album, but "Heir Apparent" is one of the heaviest sogns they've done and "The Lotus Eater" is one of the strangest, most frantic songs they've done.

great album, but the blade has been dulled, though turned towards the shadows. some tracks here are pure evil. i agree with the previous poster that this is frantic, and the sense of desperation gives the album a great feel. 88/100

also, check out the new coldplay album - its a masterpiece.

Great album! Best Opeth since BWP, at least.

I guess I am one of those who like their older stuff better. Really didn´t like the jazz parts and the singing lacks the roughness of their earlier records, it´s gotten to soft.

But I still listen to their earlier great records often, they have given me more then enough, can´t complain. It is a skillful record this one, just not to my liking.

Seriously, Heir Apparent and the Lotus Eaters are two of the most brutal and chaotic songs Opeth have done.
