Can't tell much by the samples, but it sounds a lot better than their last three.

Sounds great to me. The haters won't like it, though. But I'm sure they'll make it a point to give their opinion yet again...for the FOURTH album in a row.

The track lengths are wicked short, though. They're not even average lengths, but more like punk song length. Weird.

That's putting aside, of course, the 8-minute-long "The Chosen Pessimist", which sounds like it will be incredible. An In Flames song over 5 minutes, who woulda thought?

Overall, this gives me the last confirmation I need to believe that this will be an amazing album...possible album-of-the-year candidate for me, I'm sure.

got the album, it sounds really good. much more versatile than their previous work. come clarity was ok, but i think this one is a total ressurection for in flames.

Well Ken, you are doing pretty much the same thing for Meshuggah so ...

But i've heard the new In Flames is a big step-forward from people that were clear haters of their last 2-3 albusm...

So wrong. I never even commented on the Meshuggah album.

Here's a thought: there's a wide range of reviews each week. Why not have a listen to something new that a reviewer's introduced to you and comment on that, rather than moaning about an album you haven't heard, have no intention of hearing and the only reason you posted there was to complain about a phrase used in the review! Christ...

Maybe they'll tell me that TJR is the only good In Flames album.

This, coming from someone who trashed a band I reviewed without listening to the samples at all, having never heard anything by the band. I listen to tons of new albums, bro; many from bands reviewed here (I've been reading this site for a long time, started well before I began to review here). I read your review, it didn't convince me that the band changed enough to warrant a listen. Hence the reason I didn't comment on the music.

I did, however, read the review; thus commenting on what was said in it was in no way out of the ordinary.

I'm not bringing that shitfest up again (to recap for people wondering what Ken's on about: I heard a sample, and thought it sounded like nu-metal, and said so - Ken goes apeshit because one of the samples wasn't working and I didn't mention it, therefore I'm lying. This happened A Long Time Ago. Ken never forgives, never forgets...).

BUT there are plenty of bands that I've reviewed that don't get any attention, because people like you are busy making a mountain out a a molehill. Is it really that bad that I bigged a band up a little, and suggested that they have a futuristic element to their sound which may well make them influential on future bands? Does that really stick in your craw that much?

Come on, Zad. My initial comment in that thread was very civil and conversational. It wasn't me that lashed out at people. Don't give me that "people like you" crap. I made a simple comment, one that should have gotten a simple, civil reply from all. But certain people can't do that when it comes to me, and unfortunately others can't find it in themselves to take my side on anything.

What you just said above, strikes as a neutral opinion. What you said in the review, however, was written as stone cold fact; and you're simply stubborn if you don't get that fact. There is a difference.

Meshuggah gets plenty of attention.

The Chosen Pessimist is a very interesting song, but apart from that i dont see In Flames evolving in any way, i could almost guess what chords/melodies were comming up in most of the songs ... boooring!

Yes, agreed, very dull. I think they're moving more Alt-Rock, where CC still had enough ferocity on it to keep them Metal. I'll probably come to like it in time, but for the moment it's a disappointment.
