Well, turns out not too long from when I posted this topic someone replied to the YouTube samples with one of the full songs from the actual album, called Disconnected. Man, how did this stuff start leaking so early?

The bands and labels leak the shit themselves, why? because we're talking about it, aren't we?

I think I hate you more than I hate noodles. Go smoke a cigarette and fall asleep on a flammable bedspread while it's lit.

HaHaHaHa!
  noodles has been replaced.

Hmm...looks like those guys down at Nuclear Blast work like lightning.

In any case, the video for the first single, The Mirror's Truth, has debuted today, so that's always a fine supplement. Yet another link: http://headbangersblog.mtv.com/2008/02/ ... #more-1646.

In my opinion, the video is, well...strange. Stranger than anything else the band has ever done, really. But it's certainly well done, and the song is absolutely incredible. I think my anticipation for the album is now reaching unhealthy levels .

Well, it sounds like a natural progression. Can't say I like the song (too short) or the video (pretentious bullshit).

The song is solid...cool riff, but they didn't really build on it at all. Still pretty good, I suppose. The video is indeed weird.

How is the video pretentious bullshit? In Flames has always had large metaphorical meaning in many of their songs and videos.

How about we let the band explain it themselves, eh?

Now, here’s In Flames singer Anders Friden talking about the video:

“We’re living in a world of mass consumption and the mainstream, “the ideal,” is important for a lot of people to be part of,” he tells HBB Blog. “We work like slaves and are afraid to speak our mind. The video itself takes part in a factory responsible for making music videos. There’s only kids working there and they have to work at a high tempo to please their boss. During the making of our video they realize they can’t take this anymore and they start a riot.”

Yep, seems like a good metaphor to me. Personally, In Flames are my favorite band both instrumentally and lyrically.

Dude, they're not taking a stance against videos or MTV. That's not the message at all. There's nothing pretentious about it.

Technically, if you think about it, there is. If the band were not slaves themselves to the grand mind-control machine, then it would not be pretentiousness on their part.

Besides, it isn't as if In Flames gets the kind of rotation Gwen Stefani or The Killers get.

Cool song, by the way.

I like this song, but I still think they could do better.

Shouldn't bands that help define genre's gain recognition? Who the fuck cares if they're on MTV. Cannibal Corpse is a hit on MTV as well, so is Exodus... Better call the feds!

I don't usually get angry but I'm sick of people bashing on In Flames because they're not kvlt or fucking underground and don't play TJR over and over again.

Yeah, we've heard the opinion about ten thousand times from all the leet and tr00 metalheads. Great. In Flames sucks, they don't know what they're doing, can't believe they're on MTV /violin

I mean I don't post in topics about bands I don't give a shit about. So why are you?

God go listen to your basement produced metal and get out of this topic. I don't usually get angry but I'm sick of people bashing on In Flames because they're not kvlt or fucking underground and don't play TJR over and over again.

Since when did In Flames define anything?

And I seriously don't care if a band is 'kvlt' or 'tr00' (I do listen to Dimmu Borgir and Cradle Of Filth, after all). But if a band sucks, a band sucks.

Yes, as I said before, 'Come Clarity' is better than Arch Enemy's 'Rise of The Tyrant', but only because they were attempting something different. However, both bands in my eyes have sold out to the mainstream -- with In Flames being the top offender.

Since 1994?

I guess I'm not one to be concerned about " Going Mainstream ". I guess we should blame a band for making it big and being recognized for their talents? Make any claims about style changes but In Flames has modified their sound due to their tastes and the times but they still have that feel that lets you know that it's In Flames. I guess if you want the same album over and over again there's always Mortician.

And I don't see how you can comment about that considering you just mentioned Dimmu and Cradle. Did you know they're MTV Mainstays as well?

But At The Gates was doing the whole melodeath sound even better. How can they be defining a genre when they're not the best?

My friend, there's a fine line between selling out and progressing.

Yes, but they don't utterly suck. Nor are they Korn imitators.

I can tell that I'd like this song if I liked In Flames.

Too bad I don't.
