Can anyone recommend some good action/sci-fi/serious tv-series besides all the Star Trek/Stargate. I tried Torchwood and Threshold but didn't like it. Surface and Firefly were great though and i've just recently finished with Burn Notice which was also good (Bruce Campbell :lol).

Have you seen Battlestar Galactica? It's one of the best shows that are still running in my opinion. It hasn't got any aliens in it, only the man made Cylons. I personally hate most shows that have aliens in them. The show isn't all about action though, it's very political and the characters are very important, but when the action happens it's really intense.

Yeah, i've watched most of the first season. I remember it was very good - story, characters, effects etc. Didn't like some subplots like the traitorous doctor and his cylon bitch. Thanks for reminding me about it, i'll try the other seasons.

What? I think his story is the most significant part of the show, I don't want to spoil anything, but he's really the most interesting character.

Yeah he's rly not a sub polt at all, very important character in the show

Well I don't know how his story unfolds later in the series, like i've said I watched most of first season. It's just that his character completely annoys me with his "what am I - a good guy or a bad guy ?" attitude. Right now he doesn't help either side and more often hinders the good guys by withholding vital information about who is a cylon and who isn't. Hell, I even heard he becomes president. Don't go into spoilers it's just my opinion on his character so far. I'll check seasons 2 and 3.

Hellooo?

And is anyone else into Deadwood? Partway through s1, this is a great bit of tv. I never knew Lovejoy could be so awesome...

The 4400 kicks serious ass but was cancelled after 4 seasons and with no real resolution.

Other good scifi series are Babylon 5, Farscape (amazing!), Jeremiah (post-apocalyptic story), Jericho (of course), Kyle XY, new vanmpire series Moonlight.

Darn it. So now I'll be sat there resigned for disappointment at the end, I hate things like that.

Yeah, I've seen Deadwood. Great show, I'm not sure if it's going to continue, I think they're planning to make a movie to finish the story.

Alright, Carnivale is the best show I've ever seen. I'm watching one of the episodes from the first season right now and I thought I'd tell you how good it is. I found this great quote from TV.com:

"Carnivale was an immense biblical epic that could have been the greatest work of art ever if it had gotten to finish its story."

It's a shame they cancelled it, I hope they'll finish the story somehow, even though I haven't seen the whole show I can tell it's a shame they didn't finish it.

The creator, Daniel Knauf, wants to complete the story either in the form of books or graphic novels. Unfortunately, HBO, being a douchebag, refuses to either continue the show or give up the rights, meaning that nothing can be done. Hopefully one day..

And I'm glad you're enjoying it (what episode you on?). Its a fantastic and underrated show- and I may just have to go watch some right now.

I haven't caught much Deadwood (planning to fix that this summer break) but what I have seen has been awesome. Jericho had an uneven but fun first season- it started off pretty shit, but got substantially better towards the end- looking forward to season 2 on febuary 12th.

Haha. I just heard them use the Tardis sound in an episode of CSI. It was surreal.

I'm on the first season finale right now, I'm pretty busy nowadays so I'm watching it pretty slowly, which is a good thing if you ask me.

I agree about Jericho being pretty shitty at the start, and the first season could've been much better without all the lame subplots. I mean who the hell cares about some dude's romantic problems when the world has ended?

I just love that they use porn stars as their background girls. :)

I need someone to tell me, honestly, if The Wire and Sopranos are any good. I know people SAY they're good, but are they actually?

Also, have any Brits seen the US version of The Office?

i saw an episode of The Office US (the one where they go on a surprise cruise). it's got Steve Carell as the boss, but he's got nothing on the UK boss (Rick Gervais i think).

dunno, it's nice but i'd rather have the UK version. mind you, i only saw 1 episode, like i said.

Yeah. I'm not big on US remakes, but I thought it might be worth a look if it's significantly different. Ricky Gervais it is, subtle but very funny man. Extras is worth a watch too Mit, if you liked him in The Office.

Haven't seen The Wire, but i have all the Sopranos seasons on DVD and they are pretty much my favorite show ever. Great mix of dialogue and action, the shrink scenes aren't cliché and you'll get sympathy for a big fat asshole with an attitude! :dio:

I've only seen about 6 episodes of The Wire. It seemed really good, it's packed full of dialogue though, you need to have some patience to like it. I'll definitely watch all of it after I'm done with Carnivale and Rome.

It's not the dialogue/action ratio that I'm worried about, more the story and acting. Thanks, though, and Fingon.
