Nice too see this reviewed. It's the first Arch Enemy album that really made me want to buy it, I mean I've listened to them before but never really was a fan. But upon hearing Blood On Your Hands on their myspace prior to the release of the album I was sold. Such a killer track, great guitar work!
The album was #4 overall in 2007 for me, so I highly recommend it.

Recently started listening to them. I like what I've heard so far.

listened to Blood on Your Hands on their website and it's awesome. i'll check this out.

i didn't like Doomsday Machine at all, generally too slow. same for Wages of Sin, i only really really liked Ravenous and Enemy Within. yes, i suck.

Blood On Your Hands is an awesome track, but I heard this other one, I think it was Revolution Begins. It was pretty good, but then a breakdown started. ;__;

I dunno, Blood On Your Hands is awesome, but I dunno if I can live with my Arch Enemy doing breakdowns. I'll have to consider this.

This was the first AE album that I've heard that didn't immediately strike me as excellent, and the reason is that it feels too contrived. All those uber-catchy melodies and riffs I know I've heard before stop me getting into it (that intro riff to the first track is totally recycled from "Ravenous") and it seems written specifically for a live setting.

I preferred the more experimental focus on their last two albums, frankly. Now Riffs and Solos are back in, wheeee, let's dig out those old Carcass albums and nick all the best bits so people think we're Metal incarnate. Sorry, not convinced. I like that Angela's dropped the vocal effects, but by going back to the drawing board this band has lost me. Fun for the newbies, but it reeks of unoriginality for me, however well put-together it is. Maybe with time I'll relax into it, but it's not happening at the moment, and that they've chosen this route is enough to be a disappointment.

For me this is their best release since Wages of Sin.
THE standout track for me is definitely "The Day You Died", the guitar work is simply astounding.

Doomsday Machine stroke you as excellent  ?

I don't care about originality much, I don't need AE to reinvent the wheel (let's face it, they'll never be in the same league with Dark Tranquillity), just to produce some quality melodeath. Like this album. I'd given up on them after the previous two misses, so this was a surprise. Strong guitar work, good melodic lines, almost no filler material, I think it's their best since Burning Bridges.

I find AE to be completely worthless, and this album is no
exception. Boring and uninspired, and the vocals are complete
shit.

Doesn't seem like anyone else agrees with me tho, :D

yea, AE's albums are generally hit and miss, of the albums i've heard "anthems of rebellion" was very text book melodeath,

"doomsday machine" was surprisingly good but again 2-3 very weak tracks. pretty much same story with "rise of the tyrant" some great tracks, some text book melo death tracks and some poor tracks. intro for the title track, worst intro ever?

that said they're always good to chuck on if you want no nonsense melo death!

I found this band just because their local to me. A pretty cool band.

Arch Enemy is really hit and miss besides Burning Bridges, their only solid album. I haven't given this a listen ever since it got criticized badly when it came out but I guess I'll have to give it a listen now since some say it's good.

What the hell... this album blows. Whats wrong with metalreviews and their shitty ratings! Wake up reviewers, this album is a 70, no more no less.

Opinion

Look it up. These are what reviews, and your post, are made up of. Here's another example of an opinion:

Your post is a steaming pile of shit.

Hope that helps.

I picked this up yesterday after watching the video for Revolution Begins and I must say not bad for a melodeath band my frist venture in the world of melodeath metal.

You and ten thousand others that have never heard this kind of thing before. Someone remind me, what year did Carcass release Heartwork?

And to whoever asked me: Doomsday Machine was MUCH better than this, at least it was an interesting listen. This is generic moshcore with better riffs. Has no-one else honestly noticed that the opening track is Ravenous repackaged?

I'm still stuck listening to 1996 Arch Enemy.
