You've mentioned bands that have radically different styles of Black Metal. Specify which band you like the most and we'll help you out.

hmm... what Satyricon material are we talking about? Is it Dark Medieval Times?

if so, you'd probably also like Godkiller- The Rebirth of the Middle Ages which is very much in the same vein.. and maybe also Abigor - Nachthymnen... and Nocternity
and perhaps Darkestrah

I'm rather bad at giving advice for a specific type of music within a genre. Anywho, if you like the medieval stuff, you'll probably also like bands such as Nokturnal Mortum and general viking/pagan metal such as Thyrfing, Falkenbach, Skyforger, Månegarm etc despite sounding very different

Ulver ( only Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal are black metal) are awesome. I like Vlad Tepes and Peste Noire, but their stuff's pretty hard to get.

If you haven't checked out Darkthrone yet do so. The three albums after the debut should be owned by anyone with even a casual interest in black metal. They've had a bit of a renaisannce with their two most recent albums too.

I have all of dark thrones albums and love them all. I will try out the viking metal. Do all of dark funerals albums sound like the secrets of the black arts? I love that album. I also like gorgoroth before the newer singer.

Thanks everybody for helping me out.

All enslaved is heavily supported by me=) You might like the early stuff best. Vikingligr Veldi, Frost, Eld and Blodhemn. The newer stuff is what i like best, because of its proggyness.

more or less... check out Vobiscum Satanas and maybe also Diabolis Interium, the atmosphere is less "dark" due to the production. I'm not a fan of their latest album... it's too melodic death metal-ish for my taste, at least, annoying vocally and too clean a production

Dark Funeral is good, but quite boring. They just did the same album over and over again before turning into even more boring melo-death. Check out Black Funeral instead, specifically Vampyr-Throne of the Beast.

Everyone already said everything so here are my general recommendations and nods to the other guys:

Darskpace, Paysage D'hiver : The guy is a genius.

Blut Aus Nord : No other band can have such a scary atmosphere.

Deathspell Omega : Mandatory. You haven't heard any black metal if you haven't heard Si Monvmentvm.

Funeral Mist : Also Mandatory. Their vocalist joined Marduk and made them a x10 better band.

Lunar Aurora : Great band or greatest band?

not quite.. "satan" only make up 1/3 of the lyrics on Vobiscum Satanas as opposed to 1/2 on the debut. But it is true that the riffings resembles each other a lot from album to album, he he

But if he liked the debut i'm sure he's going to like Vobiscum Satanas as well, if not the music then the atmosphere and overall mood, but it is considered to be one of the best albums... by some.. so... he's not going to be dissappointed I think.

anywho.. if you like Dark Funeral be sure to check out Marduk - Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathere

Mütiilation are rather nice too, indeed (especielly the 1995-2001 era) - i prefer them over dark funeral and marduk and most norwigian bands for that matter. Vlad Tepes are enjoyable too (March to the Black Holocaust - but only the Vlad Tepes part)... But the rest of the LLN are quite shitty :D .. while we at the old kvlt bands... Moonblood!!! :dio: ... and maybe Seigneur Voland... I like the the german and the french scene the most, i think.

okay :D .. well.. it was just to lead him to "Dark Medieval Times"-ish material. Maybe the album from 1998 is worth checking out too... haven't heard it, but the sample is cool enough for me

Wat? Axis Of Perdition are tons better, although I admit I'm yet to get any of BaN's early stuff. Recent BaN is way overrated.
