Really? worse songwriting on the first album? Hm, couldn't disagree more. I think there's hardly anything on the second that can touch TSOTO, Pussyfoot, Wait for Something Wild. I found the second kind of a stagnation.

Well, I need to listen properly, that was a first impression though.

Pitchshifter - Submit
Pitchshifter - Desensitized
!TOOH! - Order And Punishment
Painkiller - Guts Of A Virgin/Buried Secrets

All from Earache's Xmas sale for 6.66 euros each. The first two were impulse buys as they're from the Godflesh school and Godflesh wast krieg, and I've been after the last two for AGES.

I must say, Earache are pretty darn efficient. I ordered these Thursday afternoon, they arrived Friday morning, free postage in England.

That Mr Bungle's great, although I prefer California and the s/t.

Disco Volante started off sounding like a bunch of noise to me, but I'm working them out into actual songs, and I gotta say, they're turning out to be either on par or better than s/t's. Dunno about California, though,

Why oh why haven't I bought a Dir En Grey album? There always seems to be something I'd rather buy more. How is the early stuff? From what I've heard, it's pretty standard J-rock/pop.

The early stuff is fucking awesome. Yeah, it's a bit more J-rock than the newer stuff, but it's still so varied and diverse that I wouldn't call it "standard" by any means. Even with the more "standard" J-rock songs on Gauze and Macabre, they're a lot darker and heavier than a lot of J-rock bands, most of which just seem too "ghey" for me.

If you do decide to get one, I'd say start with Withering to death., since it's a good place to start and you won't have to pay some hefty import fees. But make sure you give it some time, because a lot of people are polarized about Dir en grey, most either love them or hate them.

I picked up the new Ayreon tonight on my way home from class. I also picked up the new Sarah Brightman CD. I reallize that nothing about Sarah's music is remotely metal but she has such an incredible voice. If nothing else you have to respect her extraordinary talent.

As for the Ayreon CD. I'm really looking forward to listening to it. Their are some big names on this one....as usual.
