I guess this should be titled Flowery Power Metal, b/c if we're considering Cage as power metal than yeah that is another killer one.

Notice how I said the majority of albums. I couldn't have listened to all of them, as some albums have not been released yet.

You couldn't have listened to a majority of them. I've bought nearly 1,000 albums this year and I haven't even scratched the surface.

I agree some of the big name bands released some lackluster albums. They are each still decent albums though. Overall though this year has definately been better than 2006. Last year I had included some albums at the bottom of my list that I had given 70's which I normally wouldn't do. This year I think it's gonna be hard to decide and I think at the bottom of my list the lowest scores might be mid-80s.

got a list anywhere?

How much do you reckon you spent on all those?

On a somewhat related note, while I don't think i have bought even one pm album this year, its been a killer year for black metal :dio:

Don't start this shit again. If you're going to start posting here again keep the douche comments to a minimum. I've read two of your posts so far and they have both been about a7x in threads that have nothing to do with a7x. Don't be dumb.

Power metal had its ups and downs this year but I think it ended quite well after the slow, disappointing start. Right now I can't think of that many weak pm albums besides Twilightning (an album which has grown on me but it is still a disappointment), Sonata Arctica, Nocturnal Rites, Elvenking and Ride The Sky. Everything else have been if not excellent still quite good, and i'm not talking about newcomers. I can list at least 10 good albums this year which are in the 80's.

I think all would agree that this is the year of progressive metal. Only this year we got great cd's from Circus Maximus, Pagan's Mind, Dream Theater (not for me but still...), Symphony X, Threshold, Xystus, Darkwater, Spheric Universe Experience, Outworld (I know it's last year but I only recently heard it) and Suspyre. And I'm still behind on the new Mind's Eye, Redemption, Winds and Riverside. Btw, if anyone have an opinion on those four albums please share.

I just think people need a little perspective. I am new to a lot of these bands myself and I've aquired a lot of these albums from this year (or re-issues from locomotive) and find them to be much better than everything else being released.

Complaining about the state of (real) metal is silly.

As someone said earlier, the best music being made is by unknown bands.

Almost every band has a period of greatness that passes. The smart thing to do is realise when its time to let go and seek out other musicians that can satisfy our needs for the best metal available.

Personally, Ive found that if I listen to an album repeatedly, I'll enjoy it (unless I just can't stand it sonically)

How come they're unknown if they make the best music ? You're just being silly here !

I disagree, great bands never make bad music unless there some sort of extenuating circumstances (made an album to fulfill a record deal, line-up changes, etc)
