This album is wonderful. While I don't condone King Diamond's satanic beliefs, I think the music he, Hank Sherman, and Michael Denner write is easily some of the best ever. This album is truly a classic. Not anything by Nightwish though.

I remember when this first came out; one of the most molten slabs of Metal ever, only slighty nudged out by Melissa.
I fisrt heard these guys back in the winter of '82 / '83 on KMET (L.A.) during the midnight metal show. They played Black Masses and Doomed by the Living Dead; been hooked since.
The double axemanship of Shermann / Denker melds perfectly here and is complimented very nicely by the (very underrated) four string gallop of Timi Hansen; dark, melodic, tight as fuck and beautifully done.

KD does not have Satanic Beliefs because "Belief" has nothing to do with Satanism.

Anyway it's a great album, not a masterpiece but is one of the best for it's time and genre.

I'm the nasty eastern european judge that doesn't give anything 100 by the way.

That this masterpiece of heavy metal has garnered a mere six posts makes me despair for humanity.

It's because everybody already knows it and knows how awesome it is. You might also have noticed it, controversial albums get more replies than unanimously acclaimed ones.

As for me, I heard the album at a friend's not long after it was released and was shocked by King's voice which kept me from it for far too long. Only in the mid-late nineties did I finally give it another chance and, boy!, was I right!

Agreed with Stephan. Timeless classics rarely get big replies. On the other hand, a shitty album that get the lowest of ratings will definitely get infinitely more replies than it really should receive.

On topic: This album is without any mention and discussion legendary in the world of music.

Probably around an 80 for me. I would have liked it so much more if I had heard it a lot earlier or when it came out.

Some of the rougher recordings as on Deaths Kiss where Diamond kills those often annoying highs are great add ons. There is very little else for me to add other than the Oath and Come to the Sabbath are timeless metal anthems. I love this album and Melissa.

Dare I say it, best album cover ever? The guitar tandem of Denner and Shermann are in great form here and flex their progressive chops on standouts like A Dangerous Meeting, Gypsy and Welcome Princess of Hell. King Diamond's ear piercing wails may be a turn off to many, but they create a wonderfully eerie atmosphere that perfectly fits the album's ominous tone. This was to be the last release of the band's original run after first disbanding in 1985 but stands as one of their finest outings.
