Let's face it, last year sucked. Sodom and Tankard was nice, but that was really it. So how is this year turning out? Pretty damn good so far. Thanks to Brahm I found the goodness of Dekapitator, and I also stumbled across a band called Merciless Death. They are awesome, playing old school Exodus meets Dark Angel thrash. The new Mekong Delta is very good and thrashy. And lets not forget the new Onslaught album.

So what I am getting at, is how is thrash going? What else is there to look forward to this year? if any.

EDIT: I completely gapped the new Bywar album, which is also awesome.

Pyöveli from Finland released their debut this year. Killer thrash in the old school European style!

Other good Finnish thrash bands are Malicious Death, Nailgunner and Solitaire (more speed metal, but what the hell.) Check them out if you get the chance.

The new Municipal Waste is the best thrash release this year that I heard. Blood Tsunami also made a good debut.

The new Sigh is (blackened) thrash too, and it's awesome. The new Megadeth grew on me in time, and the new Machine Head is almost thrash and very good too.

Here comes the bit where I say the UK has a great young underground scene.

Headless Cross have sadly split up.

Pitiful Reign and Amok have thankfully put out new releases. Pitiful Reign have also been signed to some piss-ant label so hopefully a full-length will be on the way.

Evile's debut will be out later this year.

Pretty much all I've heard is the Dekapitator album and it kicked ass. I'm still exploring older thrash bands :o

This year has been pretty excellent compared to last year- the new Torture Squad album is also quite awesome, and I'm about to check out Mekong Delta's new album- I'm a huge fan, so this should be quite pleasant. I'll have to check out the new Onslaught, though I've heard bad things, and Radagast's assorted British bands.

Hell yeah, although they're a lot better live than on record. Cool guys too.

Annihilator? Does anyone here like them? I've sampled a lot of their stuff but never bought one of their cd's. They sound like classic thrash to me. They just released "Metal" this year. What's everyone's opinion of Annihilator?

Annihalator have released three good CDs in their entire career: Alice in Hell, Never, Neverland and Carnival Diablos. Everything else, including the new one, sucks the balls.

Brahm is a bit harsh. But he is right, those 3 are their best. But there are good songs to be heard on other albums. I don't care what anyone says Too Far Gone is a kick ass Anni song.

As for the new Onslaught, I bought it today. It has some ok songs but some other boring ones. I really don't know what to score it. When they get going faster it sounds pretty damn good.

And I will have to check out all of the bands mentioned. I also can't recommend Merciless Death enough. It's like Steve Souza singing for Darkness Descends era Dark Angel. Very very good.

I'm having a hard time finding these guys anywhere. Actually I'm having a hard time with all the bands mentioned. Except for the British ones on myspace.
