Have people been giving it bad reviews?

Not bad reviews, but rather lukewarm reviews, but Clutch always get those. I'll have to check the new album out if it's anything like Robot Hive/Exodus, which I enjoyed a lot

Shadows Fall- Threads of Life

Say what you will about Shadows Fall, they got me into metal and I do love them. Opening track is good; I'll post a thread with thoughts when I listen to the full thing.

Good. I'm curious to see what people think. They took The Crusade route on this one, and I don't think they've done it better.

By that you mean they've pretty much removed the metalcore elements and went all-out thrash? Interesting--I don't have any CD's by Shadows Fall, but I do like everything I've heard (The Light That Blinds kills...). Maybe I'll get this, or else The War Within.

Man, I've got so many CD's on my to-buy list I don't know if I'll ever pick some of them up.

Well, I don't think either band has ever been a metalcore band. Like I said, vocals can change perspective. Musically, both bands have never been metalcore. But, I'd actually say that Trivium pulled away from those metalcore tendencies, while Shadows Fall seemed to have embraced them here. Harsh verse, cleanly-sung choruses is the template for most of these songs. Musically, again, they're not metalcore, but the vocals and vocal melodies totally embrace that metalcore style.

That's why I said "metalcore elements"--they're not totally metalcore, but do have some aspects of metalcore in their music. Why'd you say they took The Crusade route, then? That makes it sound like they went all-out thrash...

Meaning that they abandoned their previous style for something new. Though the change is only vocally, it makes a big difference.

I hit Boston today, and got some albums in the mail:

Goddess Of Desire - Awaken Pagan Gods
Hanzel Und Gretyl - Scheissmessiah **
Judas Priest - Angel Of Retribution (CD/DVD)
King's X - Manic Moonlight (w/Bonus Tracks) *
Lyzanxia - Unsu *
Magnum - Princess Alice And The Broken Arrow
Monster Magnet - Interview CD **
Roberts, Sam - We Were Born In A Flame (w/Bonus Tracks) **
Roger Miret And The Disasters - 1984 **
Stutterfly - And We Are Bled Of Color **
U.S. Roughnecks - Twenty Bucks And Two Black Eyes **
W.A.S.P. - K.F.D. *
W.A.S.P. - The Headless Children *

* $1.75 from lala.com.
** $2 from Nuggets in Boston.

I'm shocked I got that Lyzanxia album through lala! I actually have the promo in the cardboard slipcase, and that's pretty much what I expected. It seems that the newly released metal albums I've gotten through lala have been some sort of promo. Anyway, it's the full CD—which totally kicks ass! And I got a King's X album with two bonus tracks, plus all the crazy Japanese import stuff included. Excellent trades there.

Then there's the K.F.D. album, which appeared to have once been some weird digipack, but all the plastic is missing, and I can't figure out what the fuck it's supposed to look like. If I knew, I could probably go and find a $0.50 digipack in a used bin and take what parts I need. Anyone care to post a photo of what this digipack looks like?

I've been meaning to check that out. Is it more in the Metallica style of thrash or the deathier Slayer/Kreator kind?

Not like Metallica, more on the deathier side of thrash.

Yeah, "extreme" thrash - very aggressive vocals and about a billion riffs.

Dark Tranquillity - Fiction
Hamka - Unearth *
Kingspade - PTB
Monster Magnet - 3 Songs From God's Jukebox (EP)
Sanctity - Road To Bloodshed
Vox Tempus - In The Eye Of Time

* Paid $29.95 for the import of this back in February. Ordered from CDInzane. The CD just arrived yesterday and it was the fucking regular version without the bonus tracks. They refunded all my money, so that's cool, but that's still a long fucking time to wait for an import CD, incorrect version or not.

The album is awesome, but CDInzane seems to have some retarded practices. They sell import albums, but they don't actually have them in stock. You order from them, they order from someone else. When the CD comes in, they ship it to you. Pretty fucking lame. And all their pre-order bullshit is stupid. Why the fuck would someone pre-order an album from them that's scheduled for a Fall release, with no concrete release date? And their prices are high.

But I got a refund, so free music rules.
