By the way this sounds, Matt is still going to be working in law enforcement while doing this, so I guess it's cool that he can get back to metal while still doing the work he once left metal to do.

I've never heard this band, but I'll try anything with Matt's voice behind it!

You have to check out their back catalog this is a good band with some good music.

Pyramaze are the shit! Legend of the Bonecarver is one of my top 5 releases of 2006.

I am excited at the prospect of hearing Matt's voice again. I wonder when they are going to start writing?

Omfg. I can hardly believe this is true. I've never really bothered with Pyramaze, but now that they're working with my all-time favorite vocalist, I'll definetly have to get into them.

Barlow :dio:

Pyramaze + Barlow = the sort of dream that never comes true. I'm still speechless and I will remain silent until I get to sing new Pyramaze songs from the bottom of my heart!

Oh.. My.. GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never expected him to come back, that's what makes it so awesome. Man he's one of my all time favorite vocalists for sure, this will be amazing!!
Man the wait is too long...

How do you feel about this news Ben? I remember you being super-excited about Pyramaze debut and continued to praise them with Bone Carver. Matt definitely has a different style than Lance King. I wish we could get a sample with Barlow singing a part of an old tune or something.

I'm not a big Pyramaze fan (never could get into them for some reason) but I'll definitely be checking their next album out. Barlow isn't my favourite vocalist or anything, but he does have a very nice voice and did great work with Iced Earth.

I'm excited for the guys. To be honest, I've known about this coming for a while now so I had time to listen to the old songs and imagine them with Matt. Now I loved Lance's vocals on the first two albums, they are as terrific as can be for those releases and I am really glad I got to see the original lineup live. But with Matt in the band expect a differing shift in style, heavier than the first album and a little less orchestral than Legend.

And also I should point out that this is in no way any type of publicity stunt or a "let's get a big name singer to sell cds" type of deal. Michael has been a fan of Iced Earth and Barlow respectively for years and has always wanted to work with him. Then one day he was just sitting around listening to cds of potential new singers and said fuck it I'm gonna ask Matt, why not? The funny thing is before Michael called him, no one has approached him before to come back to metal that could work with him. Ha, it was all just a phone call away. I'm looking forward to hearing the new material and meeting Matt as a member of Pyramaze.

Matt said this:

Quote:
I had offers of many other bands, but I don´t want to go on tour for an eternity. A few festivals and club shows – that is perfect and I can do that besides my job.

I can't imagine no one else asked him. Daz crazy.

Eek. I meant no one had approached him with something feasible for him to do. Damn, I need to be more careful in my wording.

no disrespect to Pyramaze but for me this is just the first step to a long long LONG waited come back. I believe that matt sooner or later will find his way back Iced Earth. That's my opinion anyhow but until then i will trully enjoy listening to pyramaze with barlow in the mic

I agree. Notice what Matt is quoted as saying here in the Rockhard interview:

Back then I was 31 years old, just married, but had no financial safety. The years with Iced Earth have been great. The tours and all the experiences with the fans will forever be a positive memory. But there was no constant in the career with Iced Earth, I really had no financial safety, because I never had a side-project like Jon, in which I could make money.

Well now, with Pyramaze, he would have a 'side project' if he were to return to Iced Earth.

I was like "is this a late april's fool joke?!". I mean, out of all bands, Pyramaze? Not to dis the band, but this feels exactly the same as when I heard Joe Comeu was gonna be the new singer for Tad Morose. Like wtf!

I've never really gotten into Pyramaze despite all the praise, but I took a listen to some of the samples again and they sounded quite good. And for the first time, I though Lance sounded great :) coz I haven't gotten into him either.

Anywayz, this is an odd pack. I bet there would have been many bands who would have been more "suitable" in style for Matt, but we'll see. At least it's going to be interesting.

This is sweet...though I don't have anything by Pyramaze, I've been listening to their stuff and want to pick up one of their records. Can't wait to see what they'd sound like with Barlow on vocals.

I picked up Legend of the Bonecarver and although I thought the music was quite good, the vocals were okay, but lacking power. I think Matt will add a lot of flesh to the bones of the Pyramaze sound.

As for going back to Iced Earth, there were enough veiled insults in his statement to make me think that will never, ever happen.

Can we say you're officially back? Barlow is back to metal as GeneralDiomedes is back to Metal Reviews?
