I just thought the first five songs were dull and same and made me turn it off to listen to the new Pelican, but then the next 5 actually varied from one another, which made them worth listening to.

Listen before you post. Please.

Isnt it worthless to keep doing this when you arent a mod anymore?

What did me being a mod have to do with anything?

You act like you own this place.....still :lame:

Hahaha. I see your e-balls have grown since I'm no longer a mod. Like I said, when I spend the time trying to encourage music discussion, I don't appreciate it when someone comes along and goes "ZOMG SONATA ONLY GOT 70! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Sorry. That has nothing to do with me being a mod or not. It has to do with wasting my time.

However, if we all always point out useless posts, all we would ever do is point out useless posts

Some of you seem bent on finding that One Perfect Flamewar, that will break the internet and cause half the population of the forum to commit suicide. I try and change the subject by saying everyone's favourite band's best album is rubbish, and who replies? Jeff!

Ta, mate. I'll keep at it.

I viewed what you wrote as potential flamewar material.

As for the rest of the discussion, everyone knows I dislike worthless shitbombs like "this band sucks" or "this is boring" and so on. I don't care if people hate Dark Tranquillity, but discuss it, don't lay down some worthless one-liner just because. I hate that, and so should most of you. Once in a while is fine, but too many do it all the time. What fun is a conversation that goes:

Turd 1: I like it.
Turd 2: Well, I don't.
Turd 1: That's cuz your gay!
Turd 2: This band is gay.
Turd 1: LOLZ!!!!!!111!!!
Turd 2: Check [band] out, they're better.
Turd 1: They suck.
Turd 2: I like it.
Turd 1: Well, I don't.
Turd 2: That's cuz your gay!
Turd 1: That band is gay.
Turd 2: LOLZ!!!!!!111!!!

Repeat ad infinitum.

I feel you, since Haven, I don't know, they are still awesome and one of my favortie bands, but shit, after you put out albums like Skydancer, Gallery, Projector and Haven there just isn't that much left to wow me with. Damage Done left me pretty cold, Character was good and of course I will buy the new one because it is Dark Tranquility but still.....I think Insominium is out doing them these days easily with Above the Weeping World and Since it all came down, truely excellant Melodic Death Metal in the DT (older) vein.

I checked out Insomnium on MySpace after seeing your post, and they seemed very "meh". I only listened to two songs (The Killjoy and The Day it All Came Down), but neither of them were very good. Maybe I'm just missing something, but I find it hard to believe that you think they are outdoing Dark Tranquillity.

On a side note, I have Character by DT...do you guys think it would be better to get this CD when it comes out or go back to Damage Done and The Gallery?

They are the last couple of albums. Maybe you have to have listenened to DT for the last 10 years and be a little burnt on them? I like the early 90's Finnish vibe they throw off, plus Above the Weeping world is just awesome. The main reason is because it is more Skydancer/Gallery like stuff. To each his own........ Damage Done though is just boring, but Character was ok.

I've listened to The Gallery three times now, and it's rubbish, apart from that one track in the middle with the cool riffs. Everyone who reccomended this to me sucks.

ha ha ha ha. Yeah.....right. At least I finally found someone that doesn't like the Gallery after all these years.

Hmm, my friend has just brought up the very valid point that every Dark Tranquillity album sucks the first few times you hear it. So hopefully Fiction will grow on me like the others did :P

This also applies to you, Zad!

I've listened again. I'm not sure what it is I don't like, but as you said, there's very little correlation between songs. Plus, good moments are ruined by that melodeath attempted heavy thingy they try and do, with the repetitive drumming and Maideny riffing. I played World Downfall again today, and laughed at DT.

I vow to only reply to you on this topic from now on.

I'm with you. Insomnium is far better than latter DT, and one of the very few melodeath bands still doing something interesting.

Dude, 98 to 2002 nothing but mellow death for me. You will find that if you only get the best you will start digging it again. Of course long gone are the days when bands like In Flames, Arch Enemy, Gardenian, At the Gates, DT and others were kicking ass.........

Insominium is damn near perfect though.

Yeah I dunno, at this point if I listen to any of those bands and I hear that melodeath style riff I instantly want to turn it off.
