I've had a hard time getting into this album so far. I feel it's much more gothic vocally than anything they've done and not as heavy. So far I prefer Lemuria and Sirius B over this......I will still try and give it a chance though

I also feel that Lemuria and Sirius B were better, and I miss Christofer Johnsson vocals, but Therion never disappoints.

You have to listen to it a few times as gets better each time I really like it and the drummer is great.

the only therion album i've heard is "beyond sanctorum", so i can only imagine how different this should sound.

i'll have to look into this..

I'm in the same boat, but facing the other way. I've only heard back to Deggial or Vovin, whichever came first. I haven't heard their death metal-ish stuff.

Both eras are incredibly different, but I imagine most fans of one type of Therion can appreciate the other era as well.

This was a very good review imo.Granted,I love the album,so that helps. But honestly, after waiting for what seemed liked years(it may very well have been)for something new,I was kind of worried as to how GK would turn out.Thankfully,I love it!The songs really are uplifting, and I love the more technical approach to the songs while still being emotional.

It is a different sounding album compared to their last release, not radically but I enjoy it.And this is alot of music for the price of admission. One of my favorite things in the album are the solo's,they are great! And the album as a whole really feels different than the last album, while retaining the Therion trademarks.

Now,if only they would start working on a second Demonoid album.......

Now this one is most dissapointing for me ... Love their previous works, GK just can't create such a stunning atmosphere as their previous works... And i guess thats heavily due to vocal changes.

I've been wanting to get something from Therion for awhile. Where's a good place to start?

Start with Theli and work your way forward.

+1

Cults of The Shadow was the song that sealed the deal with me.

It's difficult to point to any 'typical' Therion album which is representative for their sound as they do change their style in between releases.
Personally, I consider the Lemuria/Sirius B double-release to be their best to date. Although Theli and Secret of the Runes are probably the two albums that are easiest to "get into".

I absolutely adore this album...I'm addicted in fact. I often find myself listening to it twice in one day, and sometimes even twice in a row. I love all Therion albums since Theli, but I believe this is their best album yet.

I fully expect this to be my album of the year, 2007. I know it's quite early in the year to make this claim, but I find it hard to believe anyone will knock it off the top pedastal.

Lapaca Kilfoth is a perfectly acceptable place to go if you'd like to check out pre-Theli as well, but aren't looking for the death metal of say Beyond Sanctorum.

The Therion I have is Lemuria/Sirius B, Deggial and Secret Of The Runes. So that's lots of the classical stuff, how does that compare to the more death stuff?

I'd definetly say Theli, since it's their best album in my mind. Loads of brilliant tracks on that one, it's the only album of theirs that I've heard that is solid from start to finish. It's also the one that I think has the best balance between the classical elements and metal.
