The sword isn't a doom metal band...
It's stoner rock and is despised by many doom metal fans.  . What about some underground bands, anyone?

Wolves in The Throne Room and Drudkh are fairly underground. So was Nachtmystium until this year.

Nice! I'm happy that the lists are finally out and sad at the same time for not having submitted my votes/preferences when I had the chance. I felt the "deadline" was a bit too early. Maybe next time we could give it an extra month or so.

You do have a year to sort it out.

It's not easy acquiring/purchasing Nov/Dec releases and listening to them long enough in order to judge and compare them objectively with releases that took place during the first half of the year. That's why I mentioned the extra month. I've even seen people posting their votes/lists as soon as the votes were open. Wasn't that 2-3 weeks before the end of the year? Did that mean they were absolutely certain that the last month of the year has nothing more to offer, no release scheduled that is worthy of their vote ? I know that we had until Jan 6th but maybe that extra week is not enough what with holidays, travelling and such.

I was kinda surprised Virgin Steele didnt win the disappointment award as many didnt like it.

That came out late in the year and it was one of many that got caught in the backlog of releases. Had I heard it enough before our yearly picks went in, it definitely would've made my list as a disappointment of the year. I'll address it in the 2007 awards as an "honourable mention". Chris seemed really disappointed with this as well with his review. Virgin Steele was one of the bands that first brought me here to MR.com. I think it was Chris' review for the House Of Atreus Act II in fact.....

I'm more surprised that Mindcrime II wasn't on the dissapointment list at all.

It was on mine.....I liked it at first but after a while, only about 3 or 4 songs are decent with the rest being mediocre at best....very mixed opinions about that album overall

Except for Keep Of Kalessin the top 10 black metal list is pretty good.
Switch Anaal Nathrakh with KK.

Last album was really good but not worth being number one IMO.

Maiden was second best overall and yet is in the biggest dissapointments..what the f**k?
Anyway, Amon Amarth is hugely overrated in my opinion.
Evergrey on the other hand, was underrated.

The new Maiden album is a love/hate sort of situation not only here but anywhere else on the net where it gets discussed.
I personally love it......

I didn't mean it like that. I think the album is very good, but I was suggesting that if you had your hopes up for a great album you're retarded! Haha. I could see people being surprised it wasn't terrible, but disappointed? Why? What did you expect? Something like the first album?

ACtually, I did. I was firmly convinced (and still am) that Queensrÿche can do no wrong.

Yeah they just seemed like pretty standard melodeath made slightly more awesome by lyrics about vikings.

There is nothing standard about the riffing on With Oden on Our Side. Sure, it's melodeath, but it's really, really good melodeath.
