I don't get it. How did Zero Hour go from being in the top 5 to not even being in the top 10?

I agree on Monday Morning Apocalypse as biggest disappointment and With Oden On Our Side as best overall album. Haven't made up my mind 'bout the others yet though.

Nice! I'm happy that the lists are finally out and sad at the same time for not having submitted my votes/preferences when I had the chance. I felt the "deadline" was a bit too early. Maybe next time we could give it an extra month or so.

You do have a year to sort it out.

Go look at the voting thread again.

(4) 5th place votes = 4
(2) 4th place votes = 4

8 total points, 1 less than the Cloudscape, who took 10th place.

I don't know. I guess I missed what you guys were doing. I counted overall votes for each band, that put ZH in the top 5. I didn't realize the votes were cast in an order of favorite on down.

Guess I shouldn't have told the band they made the top 5.

Albums places according to POINTS received. Points were tallied as follows....

1st place vote = 5 points
2nd place vote = 4 points
3rd place vote = 3 points
4th place vote = 2 points
5th place vote = 1 point

So, if a band got 1 first place vote and another got 4 5th place vote, the album with the one first place vote won out.

Glad to see Aborym made it. Glad to see Sodom in first place in Thrash.

But why, why is Korpiklaani in the Avant-garde section? Who the fuck came up with that?

Yep. Same reason why The Sword is in the doom section.

Uh-oh. I forget what categories they had, but I think doom was the closest. Regardless, everyone calls them doom anyway. They have some doom elements, though.

Yeah, that Aborym album is amazing. Unfortunately, I didn't hear it until just recently. Otherwise, it probably would have made my top 15.

I came up with the Korpiklaani to Avant Garde notion. I realize it doesn't fit very well, but I suggested using that voting thread as a haven for albums that didn't fit neatly in any of the other categories. Sorry if it bothers you.

Come on kiddies... Slayer in second? This is why you should have to fill out all five spaces if you vote in a category.

That came out late in the year and it was one of many that got caught in the backlog of releases. Had I heard it enough before our yearly picks went in, it definitely would've made my list as a disappointment of the year. I'll address it in the 2007 awards as an "honourable mention". Chris seemed really disappointed with this as well with his review. Virgin Steele was one of the bands that first brought me here to MR.com. I think it was Chris' review for the House Of Atreus Act II in fact.....

I actually enjoyed the album, I would have rated it about an 82/100 my biggest issue with it was the lack of power in the mix. When I think of Virgin Steele I think of David Defeis shattering my pelvis bone 6 times per song. It just doesnt happen here, the songs are mostly good though, especially the first half. That said though, compared to pretty much all their albums it was a disappointment.
