Post subject: Within Temptation featuring Keith Caputo
PostPosted: Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:56 pm
Man, when I heard about Keith being on their new album I was taken aback. What an odd combination, I thought. I've not heard much from Within Temptation, but what I have heard I've liked. I assume this album will be the one everyone hates on, as this song is more like an Evanescence style, but it's a killer fucking tune, I think.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE (feat. KEITH CAPUTO)

That little man is one amazing vocalist!

I sort of like WT before they went all Evanescence style. Even then, they were never great. The second album is half decent. In Perfect Harmony is maybe one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, I can say that without shame. :) Sharon is the ultimate waste of talent.

I made the mistake of having a glass of pop while checking out the new Within Temptation track a few days ago, not only did I have to clean my sheets but WT have totally lost me with this. I have never in my life been so disgusted by a song, absolutely terrible.

I admit Im being harsh, but Within Temptation was the band that got me where I am today, all metal I heard sounded like shit to me until I heard Dark Wings like 5 years ago. I love Mother Earth, its one of my favorite albums, I love Enter and their amazing EP The Dance. The Silent Force was a big let down for me, but I still moderately enjoyed it only because of Sharon's voice. This though is a new low.. Im still gonna give the album a try and hope that this new song is just a huuuge joke. Hahaha.. good one guys.. now wheres the real single?

I dont even know who he is  I just dont like this new spunky rock version of Within Temptation, where is the band that wrote The Dance, Dark Wings, Our Farewell, and In Perfect Harmony? They certainly dont exist anymore. Its ok for a band to evolve and I wish them success, money, world domination or whatever it is they want, but Im afraid Ive reached my stop.

No they don't, that band ceased to exist after Mother Earth. WT has sold out, no doubt about that. Their change from a dark gothic metal band to a slightly more symphonic (and far better) version of Evanescence over the course of 3 albums is quite astonishing. Having said that, I like their last album and I can't say that I dislike this new single either.

Btw Ken, if you liked this song then I would say that The Silent Force is a safe purchase.

You know, in my furst post in this thread I didn't even bother listening to the song, I just went on a little explanation of my feelings on WT up until Silent Force.

Now I've listened to the song and its beyond pathetic.

I imagine that I would like all their albums. Obviously it's well-known that I can dig on this kind of modern goth rock they got going on with this new song, but I love the stuff that is on their early albums, too. I just always miss bands like this because I hate downloading things and their albums can't be found around here.

And Keith Caputo is the lead singer of Life Of Agony, plus he has some really cool and very melodic solo albums. He's a tiny dude, but his voice is outstanding, so strong. Check these videos out:

LIFE OF AGONY - THIS TIME
LIFE OF AGONY - THROUGH AND THROUGH

For a midget, he's got a ridiculously powerful voice.

I saw that video when it was posted about on Blabbermouth a couple days ago and thought it was terrible. Having re-watched it, my opinion has not changed on iota.

I am a big fan of WT; I like to say that they're the band that made me realize I don't hate operatic metal, I just hate Nightwish (only because of Tarja's vocals, though, so we'll see what happens now). I really like Sharon den Adel's vocals, and even though people say that The Silent Force is too pop-friendly, I still liked it.

However, on this track den Adel sounds like she's holding way back on her vocals (to be fair, though, that could just be the crappy Myspace sound quality), and the music itself sounds (as others have pointed out) even more accessible and poppy than The Silent Force. Keith Caputo is, in a word, terrible. His voice is utterly and completely bland and forgettable, and doesn't work with operatic (even poppy operatic) at all, let alone den Adel's voice (which could explain why she seems to be holding back). Plus (and while this has nothing to do with the music, it still bothered me), the video itself is about the two of them being long-lost lovers or something, and while den Adel is very pretty, Caputo looks like a sock puppet that's been hit in the face with a frying pan. Not the dude to tap for a romantic lead, even in a video.

And you're incorporeal. You shouldn't be able to hear, anyway. You don't have ears, let alone a proper hammer or anvil.

Its not a bad song, but at the same time, its not Within Temptation to me. I'm hoping the rest of their CD isn't like this. :(

The first thing I thought when I saw this video was "Man, what an UGLY mo-fo that guy is" Caputo's looks aside... the song isn't too bad. It's a bit poppy, but it's pretty well done, and I have a soft spot for goth-rock.

On an odd side-note, anyone ever hear Life of Agony when Whitfield Crane (of Ugly Kid Joe) did vocals for them? I think it was only for when they were touring on OzzFest 97 or 98.. he was pretty good, though.

I have never been able to find anything online with him singing, but I did see them live when he was fronting them; and he did an amazing job! I was fucking shocked! I always thought he was a really good singer, but Caputo has a deep, powerful tone. Crane does not. Or didn't with Ugly Kid Joe, for the most part. His brief stint with LOA, though, he was able to pull it off quite well. After seeing them live I had hoped they'd do an album with him.

I still maintain that Ugly Kid Joe are one of the most underrated bands ever. They unfortunately wrote a goofy song that managed to become a hit. Then they became that band that writes stupid songs! Unfortunate. Anyone ever hear "Goddamn Devil," the song Rob Halford did with them? Awesome!
