So, is Testament's "commercial breakthrough" a hit or a miss here?

For me, it's a definite hit! In fact, I'd say it's tied with Low as my two second favorite Testament albums (my first being The Gathering). Electric Crown, Let Go Of My World, Deadline, As The Seasons Grey, Return To Serenity. All great songs.

Hit, Electric Crown and Return To Serenity are among 2 of my favorite Testament songs. The rest is good too. I do like The Gathering, Low, and Practice What You Preach more though. Actually, now that I think of it, I dont think Ive heard a bad Testament album. Some are obviously better than others but each I find enjoyable for certain reasons.

HIT. They did the "Mid-Tempo, Thrash sometimes" thing better than anybody eles did in 92.

Miss overall. Electric Crown is one of their best songs ever and Return to Serenity is an absolutely stellar ballad, but the album as whole just drags; it lacks energy. I've listened to the whole thing upwards of twenty times and I still feel the large majority of songs just run into each other, they sound so damn alike.

I really don't care much for any Testament album past Souls of Black. The Gathering I consider one of the top ten most overrated releases in metal of all time.
