Forgot to snag this, but it came out in 2006... I've heard good things about it. Can anyone say differently? Also, help me close out 2006 with all the good norsecore I missed... I didn't buy much of it this year.

Norsecore in the "far from the metal tree" sense. Like, Burzum, Darkthrone, Emperor, Ulver all = norsecore, but not in a bad way.

Right, the other meaning of norsecore. koldbrann is good, look up moribund. lots of usbm got released. (krieg, xasthur, leviathan, sapthuran, hills of sefiroth, nachtmystium all released stuff)

I thought norsecore was a tag for bands like Naglfar, Dark Funeral, Marduk, Immortal etc..

Norsecore is not a genre.

If you hated CYFAWS, I advise you stay as far away as you can from this one - that's their typical style ;)

I've listened to it a couple of times now, and I dig it. Production is still a bit too messy at times, but at least it's not as muddy as on DPE; more inspired songwriting as well, which never hurts. Thumbs up.

CYFAWS? Good, cuz I already bought it.

I think "Norsecore" still defines a direction BM branched off towards, depending on how you view where and when BM actually started. Because regardless of the feeling... there are two distinct versions of black metal and each are equally important the extreme scene.

Tagline how? Like, in a bad way, right?

How'd these bands get so lucky? Aside from their RECENT material, Marduk has released some of the best fast BM there is, and Immortal is a fucking legend. You can rag all you want, eventually you gotta give their stuff some fair play time, and 50% of their discog is gold. Blizzard Beasts has become one of my all time favs.

But I am not saying the bands i have listed suck!
I really like Marduk, i prefer their older stuff but World Funeral and even some songs in Panzer Division Marduk have their moments.
And Immortal, Sons Of Northern Darkness, is great. Not really fond of Blizzard Beasts though.

I didn't like it that much. The vocal is pretty crazy tho (literally). I'm surprised he's still alive after cutting himself so much. Fucking idiot.

Norsecore is a term of derision, and misapplied here. Burzum, Darkthrone, Emperor, Ulver were the bands that helped innovate the Norwegian Black Metal style, while Norsecore should apply to the bands that ripped off the originals.

I agree with others in this thread that Marduk and Immortal get slandered unfairly because they didn't always imitate others.

Dark Funeral and Naglfar on the other hand are two of the purest examples of Norsecore and are totally worthless.

Frankly I wish the term didn't exist at all, but I was proven wrong by the forum elders on that issue long ago.

My understanding was that it was originally a word for Norwegian BM. So any bm from Norway was norsecore. Then it morphed into a slander for Dark Funeral et al

I know people hate Marduk and Dark Funeral because of the blasting, but as a grindcore fan, I think they rock. :dio: And not least because of their particular corpsepaint interpretations... :)
