Wow! That's Jon singing "Edge of Thorns!" Holy crap he does a really kick ass job. I've not seen Savatage with Jon singing, I was always curious to know how did on the Zak Stevens tracks. Apparently he does a killer job!

Cool! That was neat seeing that old video.

The JOP vid of Edge of Thorns was cool too. I as well have wondered how he handled those songs and now I see he not only handles them well, he is better than Zak (Was never a huge fan of Zak anyways).

I know it would never happen, but it would be cool to hear re-recorded versions of Zak-era albums with Jon.

No fucking way is he better than Zak. No way. I love both of their styles, but Zak is way better!

HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING
SIRENS

Zak can do Jon Oliva better than Jon can do Zak Stevens. :dio:

And a big 'No fucking way' to you to. That version of Hall of The Mountain King was the worst version Ive heard of that song, not to say its bad though, but its just simply good. Zak is good, Jon is great. During the "AH! AH! AH!..." part I get shivers from the combination of that, the riff and the insane laugh after it, Zak's laugh is pathetic, which takes away alot from the Jon material. Hearing those live songs only made me wanna put on the original albums.

Zak has always been a great singer. Jon became a better singer as time went on. Jon still screams unnecessarily at times in songs where it simply doesn't belong. Zak is a much more polished vocalist whereas that was never Jon's only focal point. The fact is though that Savatage wouldn't have become what it became without both of them. I really miss the days when Zak sang and Jon came in to sing on the more aggressive parts. It was perfect that way as far as I'm concerned. Concerning Jon's keys and songwriting - no words are necessary :)

The live in Japan Hall of the Mountain King rules!!!
