Ok fellow Doom enthusiasts, ive been listening to alot of Doom bands these days, so could any of you recomend me bands in the line of:

Pagan Altar
Witchfinder General
Trouble
Pentagram
Candlemass
St Vitus
The Obsessed
Cathedral
Reverend Bizarre

Northwinds comes to mind off the top of my head, here's a link to some samples: Northwinds

Electric Wizard and Sleep are good choices too.

If I think of some more later, I'll post them too.

hey The_Voice, i'm a big fan of traditional old school doom myself and i worship all those bands you listed. True doom or no doom at all!

The best doom band of all time for me would always be PAGAN ALTAR, no other band has ever come close to the perfection of Volume 1 and The Lords Of Hypocrisy imo heheh.

check out

Black Hole (highest recommendation, Tim from Evil Legend says it best : 80's Dark, Haunting, Horror, Epic Doom Metal with bizarre vocal deliveries from ITALY. Unbelievable Album!)
early Death SS (occult heavy/doom)
Paul Chain (Death SS guitarist solo project, amazing doom)
Dark Quarterer (founders of epic progressive doom)
Solitude Aeturnus (USA's answer to Candlemass)
Dream Death (unique thrashing doom/death from the 80's!)

Indeed, Paul Chain is the shit. I've been listening to "Park of Reason" alot lately.

Hehe yeah i know man, Pagan Altar kills, thats what got me hooked, while i have already heard some doom bands before(Candlemass, Pentagram, St Vitus), the Pagan Altar album you sent me made crave for more, now i desperately feel that i need more of this genre in my collection.

Ill keep an eye for the bands you mentioned, starting from Black Hole, wow you can find alot of good shit on Evil Legends.

I havent heard modern Paul Chain... from what i heard it's more straight up psychedelic doom/rock. I totally dig what i've heard from his early works... exceptional occult/black doom. Everything he did with Death SS was out of this world too. He's a legend !

Stuff like Sleep and Electric Wizard doesnt really do anything for me, i like my doom being heavy metal at the same time i guess heheh

I was listening to them earlier, they're sort of Neurosis-ish but with more melodic/varied riffs n' stuff.

Raise The Red Lantern, sludge with influences such as Neurosis, Isis and Mastodon.

Anybody mentioned Officium Triste here yet? They are from the Netherlands. Their last album Reason is absolutely fantastic, best song on it is The sun doesn't shine anymore. This is what doom should be like, nice and depressing.

Hey I wanted to bump this up because I heard them again and have decided that they are really good, maybe up in my high spots for this year.

Hell yeah!! Great find, rio!

It seems anything Leif touches turns to gold. Krux II just became next on my "to buy" list. Maybe a review forthcoming as well...

While heaven wept is one of my favorite doom bands. I agree they are somewhat happy sounding and I looking at it as uplifting and gives the listener hope. They are supposed to be releasing a new album pretty soon too I think

Nice, looking forward to it. Such a cool sound, doom drenched in stringy keyboards. They make it sound awesome.

Bump!

I somehow missed this post originally. I also concur with the awesomeness of this band, which I reviewed this week.

Might have mentioned these guys before, but I reviewed The Drowning's debut recently for BW, and it's pretty good, old-school Brit-Doom.
