Get neither. I listened to, and enjoyed, both... INITIALLY. But, I got bored as fuck. I avoid these just like I avoid Nightfall and Night at the Opera. I'm not even gunna mention Glorious Boredom (even though I just did.) Stick to Horror Show, Something Wicked, and Somewhere Far Beyond for over the top, over produced "epic" Power Metal.

That's my review, they both were short lived.

Somewhere Far Beyond over produced???
Power metal definitley isnt your forte.

If you bleed black blood (lame reference to black metal) you'd understand.

I made the mistake of only getting the second one, and though it's quite good, I kind of got bored of it. So try out the first and hopefully you'll have more success.

I admit nothing, my forte is fine as far as I'm concerned. But, if you think you could improve it, give me your definitions and recommendations of over and underproduced items.

Teach me, if you think you have something new to offer.

My intent wasnt to provide a lesson or to suggest that it needs improvement. I simply was observing that power metal does not seem to be your preference. I find it really hard to call albums such as Somwhere Far Beyond and Something Wicked overproduced. Try listening to live versions of the tracks on those albums and comparing them to the studio versions and you might see what I am saying.

However, if Metalness' suggestion that you're more into black metal is true, then yes, albums like Somwhere Far Beyond are overproduced, when you compare them to albums like In The Nightside Eclipse that is (great album btw).

The first Demons & Wizards album is simply awesome. It's so sinister and dark, one of my favorite albums ever. Admittedly I am a huge Iced Earth fan and the songs on it are basically Iced Earth songs with Hansi on vocals (a killer performance by the way, I wish they did more darker stuff in Guardian) so it makes sense for me to love this album.
Mad riffing! :dio:
Favorite songs: Fiddler on the Green, Blood on my Hands, Heaven Denies, Last Sunrise.

Touched by the Crimson King is good as well, not as good as the first one though. A bit easier to get into maybe, but some songs lack depth, whatever that means ;).
Favorite songs: Loves Tragedy Asunder, Down Where I Am.

Yep. Get the first one first. However, I disagree that the second album is bland. I said it before: I simply think the second album left nothing to mystery. We knew what to expect; thus were not impressed as much. I do, however, think the standard issue suffers from it choice of tracks.

If anyone is going to buy the second album I cannot stress this more: get the special edition! "Lunar Lament" and "Spatial Architects" are both killer tunes and should never have been bonus tracks. Had they put one track before "Wicked Witch" and the other before "Down Where I Am," and then put "Dorian" at the end (or another heavier number), then the regular, more common, version of the album would have fared much better.

Anyway, get the special edition.

+1

Although I think the slow songs on the second album are the best ones.

My favorites are "Dorian" and "Love's Tragedy Asunder." Those two make me sweaty in just the right spot.

I'm sure we've said this before

But yeah, the slow tunes are the best ones on the second album.
