the production is great!! :D recently bought the LP too 8)

Sorry Gast but I just dont' get it.. Same with Mystic Forest - Green Hell and Xasthur - A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors. Many of the black metal listeners on this site seem to love these albums but I just don't get it.. The music has merit but the production makes it sound so terrible.. I don't understand.

That said, one particular band you've been harping on about that I did like was Taake. Nattestid is quite decent and Bjoergvin is fantastic. Some of the riffs in Bjoergvin seem like they have absolutely nothing at all to do with black metal, but somehow it still works.. its definately one of the most impressively original albums I've heard recently.

Then you do not like black metal productions, because the average bmfan will pick nattestid above broegvin anytime.

Today I got:

Leviathan - The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide: I love just LOVE Leviathan... even if he fucks off reviewers...

Nagelfar - Hünengrab im Herbst: Thanks Misha for showing me this album, it's amazing.

Krieg - Kill Yourself or Someone You Love: Raw as fvck!

Forgotten Woods - Baklengs Mot Stupet : Without a doubt the best purchase of the last months. Includes the band's two full lengths and the EP. This band is fuckin' godly, all of their material slays!!! Envy people?

I also got tickets por Placebo today :) .

So as you can see, todat was an excellent day :D .

But why? I seem to be in the minority here. Ever since I got into metal, its been an adventure. Exploring unheard landscapes. I didn't like death vocals at first, but I got used to it because of how good the music in melodic death metal can be. I WANT to enjoy the albums that most of you hold in such high regard. I feel like I'm missing out on something.

Is there an album that will teach me to appreciate the raw production in albums like Nattens Madrigal, A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors, and Green Hell?

(or should I just listen to them over and over until I get it?)

Ok today has been a great day... Here I go:

Behemoth - Zos Kia Cultus
Behemoth - Thelema 6
Bloodbath - Nightmares...
Windir - Valfar, Ein Windir
Deströyer 666 - Unchain The Wolves
Xasthur - Funeral Of Being
Xasthur - Telepathic With The Deceased
Xasthur - To Violate The Oblivious

been waiting for these so long...

I don't even know which to start with so I'll probably end up killing myself

Maybe you should try Bergtatt - it is a good gateway to Nattens, but something tells me you've already did... You DO enjoy all the "classic" releases by Burzum, Darkthrone, Immortal, Enslaved, etc? Then it should be quite easy to get into the ones you mentioned... And do you use headphones while listening? They really help.

I, for one, agree with this assessment.

Hey guys,

I'm gonna spin this one a few more days before answering; but what I can tell you is that the album is killer and that Leviathan is without a doubt one killer motherfuckin' band, probably my fav American BM band.

Yep, I'm very fond of Bergtatt, probably because it is not as raw sounding as Nattens. As far as the other bands go, I'll list what I've heard and you can tell me what I'm missing.

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (I know, I have to try Filosfem)
Immortal - Pure Holocaust, Damned in Black, At the Heart of Winter, Sons of Northern Darkness
Enslaved - Below the Lights

I have not tried any Darkthrone.. they seem to have a lot of releases, where should I start?

I have a decent pair of cans, I do not think they are the issue.

Thanks very much for the constructive reply Desolate.

A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under a Funeral Moon or Transilvanian Hunger.

By the way b_a, get all of Burzum's albums, not only Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, because all of them are awesome.

I agree with deathkvlt, but there's more, so imo you should get:
1. Darkthrone's Unholy Trinity (especially Transilvanian Hunger)
2. All Burzum's opuses (especially Filosofem and Burzum/Aske)
3. Immortal's :!: Battles in the North :!: , Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism
4. Enslaved's Vikingligr Veldi, :!: Frost :!: , :!: Eld :!: , Blodhemn, Mardraum: Beyond The Within
