Nobody said Pentagram and I am shocked at that. I don't even like Doom but I dig Pentagram. They have a greatest hits on Peaceville that is awesome.

Dammit! I always forget a few. Indeed, Pentagram kicks ass.

I would def suggest Witchcraft as well which I like and as I none doom fan if would good to start with.

Uhh....

What?

lol, I think I have typing issues when I am in a hurry or my brain is turning to mush.

That was my impression of the people in Asia i work with emailing me.

Fucking leee, you're always typing shit like this! Hahaha.

As for Witchcraft, I agree they are awesome, but I'd really classify them more as a 70's rock band. They have some doom elements, but overall I would never say they're a doom metal band.

Yeah, I would start with Black Sabbath. About Witchcraft: I think they are doom metal.

If Sabbath and Pentagram are they are for sure.

Where do hear it? I hear elements of doom, but I hear far more 70's hippy rock than anything.

Trad doom and "70's hippy rock" share many similarities, so it's not that far fetched.

I've actually yet to hear Witchcraft, an error I intend to correct soon.

Of course, I just hear more of one, you know? I think I posted about them in the 70's rock thread I started a while ago.

Or, you know, I could upload something. =)

I'd recommend Swallow The Sun. It's very melodic actually.

Isn't the complete black sabbath and pentagram catalogue the opposite of "hippie rock"?

As a starter, how about early Katatonia? Album Brave Murder Day for instance.

For the more heavy stuff like Shape of Despair, try Tyranny from Finland or Comatose Vigil from Russia and one of my favourites Officium Triste from The Netherlands, now that's doom!
