I just bought "Nordland I" the other day. I saw it in the used bin at Homers for 5 bucks, so I figured, why not? This is the second album I've purchased by Bathory, the other one being Hammerheart. Anyway, I'm glad I picked this one up. This is great epic Viking metal. What should I look for next?

Well, I'd say Nordland II would be a proper purchase. Twilight of the Gods might also catch your fancy, it's the one after Hammerheart, the last album of the original stint of the band.

Under the Sign and Blood Fire Death are also excellent, but not the same thing. A lot of people who favor the "viking metal" period aren't too keen on the older stuff, and as I recall you're a big heavy/power/true metal guy right?

Blood Fire Death is awesome! I love the title track, oh and every other song on it.

Blood Fire Death, of course.
Northland II, Destroyer Of Worlds and Twilight Of The Gods are good choices too.

Requiem is nice if all you want is some thrashing action. the songs are kinda samey, though.

The Return is a great album as well. Pretty much everything except for Octagon, stay far away from that pile of garbage.

EQUIMANTHORN!

If you like Venom you'll like Under the Sign of the Black Mark.

It depends what you like. If you are a fan of new Black Metal bands like Morrigan and some others definetly get Blood, Fire and Death because that is really the definitive album that combined the whole viking thing with black metal with an epic vibe. I am sure you have heard a Fine day to Die or at least the Emperor cover, anyways, easily Bathory's best album. Also if you are into raw BM you should here how it all started with the Return and Under the Sign of the Black Mark. I never heard Nordland or anything after Hammerheart but all four or essential as far as I am concerned.

I've only got 'Under The Sign.....' and 'Blood Fire Death'. I haven't really listened to Blood Fire Death much, but I really enjoyed 'Under...'. I highly recommend Under The Sign Of The Black Mark.

You really shoud get aquainted with that Blood, Fire, Death then. If you like Under the Sign you'll have a good time with that album

I've grown to really love this CD (Nordland) almost as much as Hammerheart. So now I'm going to start from the beginning and build my Bathory collection.

Nordland is an amazing and rather underrated work, IMO one of Bathory's best. I'm glad to witness such appreciation :)

Yeah, you should do that, just be warned that not all bathory albums are Viking.

Yes, you'll probably want to go with the viking ones first, so get Nordland II, Twilight Of The Gods and Blood On Ice. Leave Blood Fire Death and the rest for later, that's my advice.

Go to Barbarian Wrath and order Morrigan, you will love them. Especially Plauge, Waste and Death and Headcult, Celts is great too.

Then get the first one or Under the Sign of the Black Mark.

Yes, Morrigan is pretty good Bathory copycat. I've only listened to Headcult though, but it's a really solid album.
