Are they Manowar now?

ANTHEM (WE ARE THE FIRE)

Either way, I'm totally diggin' on this track. So far they're 2-0 on this new album with me. Weird.

It actually isn't bad, but it is boring.

Wow, this is a pretty good song...it sounds a little repetitive at first, but on the second or third listen there's more change in the rhythm than one might think, at least IMO. I think I like it better than Detonation...although I did like Detonation, I appreciate the fact that he doesn't sound like Hetfield on this one. But, I'm still hoping that for the actual release they have the razor-sharp production of Ascendancy that made the sound so distinctive. Is there any chance of this, or is what I'm hearing the final version?

I like this song better than detonation, the rythme changes(2-3 changes) in the solo part of the song (1m55s to 2m44) is pretty good.
I enjoyed very much. The vocals on this one are some of the best I heard for Trivium.

Better than Detonation. At least it wasn't actively annoying.

So, I bought Ascendancy for $8.99 this past Friday. The fucking regular CD/DVD version was $19.99! Fuck that. So, $8.99 used is OK for a CD/DVD.

I listened first on the ride home from Boston, the intro track is really cool and "Rain" starts out fucking badass! But then...BAM! The screams. You know, they're better on this album, more natural sounding, mixed better, than on Embers To Inferno, but I still wasn't digging them completely. The next song was "Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr!" I fucking laughed the whole time! BOAT! RUDDER! TWIGADEE! Hahahaha. Awesome.

Anyswayze, I've listened to the album countless times since then and I can honestly say that I dig it. I got used to the vocals for the most part. Musically the CD is so awesome! It's technically sound, these guys are seriously skilled. The solos are killer, the compositions are killer and the singing is damn good. It is, however, plagued by too much screaming. It just kills some songs. When they released their cover of "Master Of Puppets"—which I still maintain the opinion that it is one of the best Metallica covers I've heard—I said that this band would be so much better with less screaming and more aggressive singing. And they are.

Eventually, as fans of metal, we have to let natural progression take place and certain metalcore bands will undoubtedly progress to something closer to our heart, albeit it slightly different than traditional metal. But it is 2006, you know? It's not 1986 anymore. That's why I'm cool with the singer of Cellador being a wigger. Regardless, I think Trivium are crossing over, as I said before. If these two songs are indication of what's to come on this new album I'm actually excited about it. It may never be the metal we grew up loving, or have recently grown to love, but it's not all that bad.

Like I said, musically Trivium are badass; vocally, the screams just don't work all the time, though it works far more than not on Ascendancy, and far more than on Embers.

So there are my thoughts? Am I a fan of Trivium now? Not really, but I do give Ascendancy a 70/100.

Bits of this are not bad, but as NESS says its pretty dull overall. I was expecting more from the solo section, but at least they actually put in a proper section rather than one fret-run.

Sort've reminds me of Warlock in a strange way. But, y'know, with dumb gang vocals.

The first song posted was waaaay better!

Also, does anyone dislike the self-referential smugness in the lyrics?

I can't think of anything nice to say about that Anthem song. Nothing. I can see them doing a St Anger in a couple of albums' time.

Another new song has been posted. I must admit, I definitely hear an early Metallica sound on this one. And this is another killer tune! Seriously. No screaming. Nice. I like.

And anyone that says these dudes can't play knows dick about music. :)

What seems more likely IMO is that Metallica will start going for this exact type of sound.

The myspace stuff is cool. If you're going to have a patronising "revivalist" mainstream movement there are much worse things it could sound like.

Yes, cool soloing and some nice riffs, but when I listen to it I just keep feeling like I'm too old for it. That sounds wierd but it's just the way I feel.

Then our definition of pop is vastly different. Pop here is Madonna, Britney Spears, Pink, shit like that.

Yeah, I was about to say that...I think of Nightwish like metal with opera singing. Or something...

And I'm loving the new Trivium song. I don't know, that definitely sounds like some pretty good thrash to my ears...I kind of miss Travis' excellent drumming from Ascendancy, which he seems to have dropped for a more traditional thrash-style.
