Soundgarden and AiC were good. Pearl Jam and Nirvana were boring so they became more popular.

Pearl Jam fucking roxxx moron !

too much black metal will ruin your taste !

i agree. Though I like all the bands (sans Soundgarden), they all got self-righteous. Each band, over time, was boring to listen to.

FLANNEL OVERLOAD!

I'm glad I didn't ruffle any feathers, guys.

The reason I said Pearl Jam is boring is really because I played them too much, especially Ten. Hearts & Flowers, Corduroy, and Daugter are still some of my favorite songs from that era. I can't listen to Nirvana much anymore, but hey I own every Green Day album so feel free to flame me for that one.

i guess any band you listen to a lot will begin to sound dull. green day is cool, but i havent listen to a entire album of theirs since dookie. everyone seems to like their new album.

actually, Green Day turned out to be more a modern version of The Who than a punk pop outfit... it's a great band, they never sold out & they do deserve the success they're getting !

Awesome comment emokid. There is a reason why The Who like Green Day so much.

I'm actually curious, figuring my lack of knowledge of both bands, but what are the similaritys between The Who and Green Day?

What Emokid said. Green Day has been moving toward the Who sound for a long time now, but on the new album, "American Idiot", is where the comparisions really resonate. Green Day has a lot of older rock band influences in their sound now besides the Who. Their previous album, "Warning", had strong Kinks and Beatles influences on certain tracks.

yeah, they certtainly grown a lot since Basket Case (when they were the best punk pop band along with Bad Religion anyway)... they turned out to be this powerful classic rock outfit that I happen to enjoy a lot...

and you're right about the Kinks/Beatles influences though you could have added The Yardbirds, The Jam & The Buzzcocks... and a few more I guess...

Viva Green Day ! :D

Agree, the only grunge lot that I really got into were Pearl Jam. Also agree with The Immortal Emokid about Green Day, they are the best of the pop-punkers (good last album, not as good as Dookie though) and the only ones that I listen to.
Interesting topic, is punk part of metal? If so, can we have a few more punk reviews, the scene is growing again after Blink 182, Good Charlotte etc destroyed it. The Explosion and The Dropkick Murphies in particular aren't bad.

punk is not a part of metal.... though, many metalheads enjoy both punk & core (along wih prog rock which is not metal either)...

however, I don't think pure punk, core or prog reviews are very welcome here but there are plenty of other websites for the matter !

Sometimes the line between punk and metal is so thin that the average joe probably couldn't even tell the difference. Have you ever listened to Blood For Blood? They're a punk band, but they have so many metal influences that a lot of people lump them into the metal catagory.

Agreed, so those walking the thin line can be reviewed.... other belong to other webzines....

I've tried to see Blood For Blood in concert about seven times now, and EVERY time I've missed them. They are always on the bill as an opening act, and every time they've somehow gotten lost, gotten booted, had some problem where they couldn't show up, or I've been late to the show and just missed their set. I've heard so many great things about their live performances, too....
