manly version of Power Quest (ie, much less keys, harder riffs).

That is the best comparison I've heard.

I personally think Cellador sucks as well. But that's not to say you shouldnt like them. But that style of metal is so played out for me.

And Thrash isn't? I'm not attempting to cause a fight here, but as a staunch proponent of a genre that hasn't moved forward in a positive way in over 15 years that seems like a weird thing to say.

:omfg:

You have a Zing-O-Matic 5000, too?

I don't really care if music "progresses". I really don't. So you made a good comparison between thrash and the type of metal Cellador play. Both are extremely generic now. That's why I feel that I have to be more selective with the bands I listen to, and Cellador is not one of them.

I downloaded a couple songs from these guys' demo or EP or whatever...definitely not bad stuff. I wouldn't say it's excellent, but it's entertaining and pretty good, if not original...

Yes well, we need to be selective in what we listen to, this is true. But I'd say that as far as two "played out" genres go, Power (or Euro, whatever) Metal has a lot more to offer from new bands than Thrash does. That was my point - you may be finding new stuff to hear every day, but there will be very little good Thrash to discover that came out after 1990.

Yeah but Holy Terror has already stated that he doesnt like modern stuff, not even thrash, i do think that his post was rather useless (we all know that he isnt going to like Cellador), and it would have been better if he had mentioned some bands instead, like : "Cellador sucks, go listen to Cloven Hoof or [insert obscure and probably good band] ", that way someone who reads it might be interested in the bands HT mentioned, and it might lead to a better disscussion.

Yeah I know, its difficult to respond to a dead-end post. H_T would have been as well writing "Metal as a genre is played out now," but he prefers to bash Power Metal than shitty so-called modern Thrash Metal because its more popular. Personally I would have though the abortions from Annihilator and Exodus last year would have offended his sensibilites more than a Cellador album, but as I already said I'm not trying to get into an argument.

"abortions from Annihilator and Exodus"

[venting]
Sad though really...because I used to be in contact with Jeff Waters a few years ago. If I did somehow start talking to him again, I wouldn't even know what to say about the new stuff. [/venting]

Back on topic, I figure someone would be more offended by crap being churned out by his favorite genre than by material in another genre he apparently doesn't care for.

American Power Metal - Virgin Steele, Manowar - basically an extension of Heavy Metal but more epic.
European Power Metal - more melodic stuff like Helloween, Stratovarius.

The fact that there are European bands like Grave Digger and Brainstrom and, only recently, American bands like Cellador and [that abnd Kayla reviewed] prove that its stupid to try and classify a genre by its origin. US-style Power Metal, Euro-style Power Metal - its all variations of the same thing in the end.

Or Jag Panzer or Omen to be more exact, Warlord, and the more doomy strains of Cirith Ungol and Maniall Road.

Euro examples of this (i.e. True Power Metal) are bands like Angel Dust, Brainstorm, Tad Morose, Morgana Le Fay and others.

Look...Cellador does not suck. I played with them a couple weeks ago and they rocked the house. They are a good band to come out of the US and I like that. The reviewer is obviously not a fan of power metal because he's throwing out Dragonforce as a comparison. We all know by now that anyone comparing power metal bands to dragonforce most likely heard them in Hot Topic. (not to say I hate that dragonforce is being played there...because hopefully it will lead to more power metal being heard)

My point is that Cellador is a cool band. And I do have to mention that the singer is amazing live. He really nails the notes and I am always impressed with that. I'm not going to lie and say I think they are revolutionizing the industry but the more metal that gets out there the better in my opinion. Cellador is a good band and I wish them all the success in the world.
