People can namedrop all they want here but it's Sunn o))). Officially.

edit: The o))) in the name is an ampflifier and Sunn is an amplificator brand. In case you were wondering.

Live I'd say mastodon was the loudest. I haven't heard Sunn so i wouldn't know about them, but I do know that mastodon's sound was freakin huge.

Probably Metallica in Gothenburg 04.. The sound was massive, never heard anything that loud outdoors before.

Hard question... maybe Merzbow was the loudest act I've ever seen. Obviously the sound would have been louder at festival gigs, but at that one it felt louder because it was in a tiny little room and all the furniture was moving around because of the vibrations.

I don't even know how this can be determined. Say you see one band and you're in the lawn section, then see another band and you're right up front, to the right, 10 feet away from the ginormous Marshall stack? Which was louder?

I'd say, Priest.

Mastodon and As I Lay Dying were both extremely loud when I saw them, so I guess my vote is on them. Secret Machines were also pretty loud.

Secret Machines were pretty loud, pretty much banging on their instruments at the end of their set...but as far as loudness goes I'd have to say Gizmachi, their sound was pretty strong.

MOTORHEAD!!

This is an easy one. I was about 50 or 60 feet back from the stage at an indoor show they did with Zeke, and I literally went deaf about halfway through Motorhead's set. I've been to plenty of other shows where I've stood five feet from the amplifier bank, but Motorhead is the only band to this day to leave me deaf.

I don't know if you mean loudest by the number of decibels, or the overall power etc...

If so, it was definitely the Holy Moses/Assassin show. They had shitty equipment, but just smashed!!!

That surprises me, as Tool have never had a reputation for insane volume.
