just kidding. I do find it to be the weakest by far.

It's definitely their weakest. It could have been a killer EP, or shorter full-length. There are too many filler tracks, though.

Killer tracks:

- Elvenpath
- Beauty And The Beast
- Astral Romance
- Tutankhamen
- Nyphomaniac Fantasia
- Know Why The Nightingale Sings

Good tracks:

- The Carpenter
- Sleeping Sun (Bonus Track)
- A Return To The Sea

Filler tracks:

- Angels Fall First
- Lappi (Lapland) I: Erämaajärvi
- Lappi (Lapland) II:Witchdrums
- Lappi (Lapland) III:This Moment Is Eternity *
- Lappi (Lapland) IV:Etiäinen *
- Once Upon A Troubador (Bonus Track)

* from their first three song demo

if it weren't for Tuomas vocals, the Carpenter would be a killer track too...

Correct, but I can't fault him too much, really. The songs weren't meant to be released on such a grand scale, you know? I would love a re-recording of this album minus the filler tracks. That would be awesome.

it's still better than most debut albums i'll give them that, but it just pales in comparison to the rest of their catalogue. Even Over The Hills & Far Away is a better listen IMO

I must be the only one that really digs Angels Fall First. I like how raw it is. I like all their shit, only Century Child is somewhat of a let down and only because it followed Wishmaster.

i didn't like them when i first heard them, especially the vocals. Male operatic pwn female operatic vocals. they also seemed just a mainstream crap band, but now I might go back for a listen again...

EDIT: right after i finish listenng to moonsorrow, of course

EDIT: And Primal Fear, come to that...

EDIT: Shit, I download more stuff than I can listen to...

Mainstream my ass. And operatic vocals are very different than a pure opera vocalist.

Which is why people don't care about music like you should. It's all right there for the taking.

Yeah I totally agree with Ken here. We can bitch about stupid shit, but fuck, if you download so much shit you can't even enjoy it why bother? So you can spout knowledge on a web board? Do yourself a favor, save up your money, buy 4 or 5 albums a month you really want, you will love them much better.

Nightwish isn't mainstream. Once and Century Child have Elements but for sure Oceanborn and Wishmaster aren't.

I'm not saying that them being mainstream makes them bad, i'm just saying that I had a slight aversion to them because most mainstream music I know of is absolute crap (especially this close to italy, where house and disco abound. and this reaggaton shit.)

they didn't get any money from you then did they?

I proudly own two Nightwish shirts, the one for Once from their NA tour is cool.

So, you listen to everything you download, but your clearly don't care about any of it, else you wouldn't download so much. No one ever gets giddy with anticipation anymore, you know Tuesday or Monday is coming up and that new album you've been waiting years for is about to come out. You wait outside the door of the store for the moment they open, you run in BUY the CD, head home, put the CD in, kick back and just get swept away in the music. Sounds gay, but that's what happens.

Now, of course, that new album you've been waiting for gets leaked onto the net. You download it for free, you have to figure out where you saved it to among your 90,000 other MP3s, and then you find it, select all the files, hit Enter and then listen to the music while you talk shit on the internet, not even paying attention to your "favorite" band. Then when the album is over, you've got 27 other "new" albums to listen to. None of which you paid a dime for.

It's a goddamn plague that's ruining music.

I own a Wishmaster shirt and the badass Planet Hell shirt which has one of my favorite Nightwish lines ever: "Save yourself a penny for the ferryman."

Goddamn, I wanted that Planet Hell one. I only have the basic Century Child one, it is an awesome image however (except for the man hands, haha).

Nightwish remains my favorite band after 5 years of listening everyday and I own every album and one dvd, a shirt and paid an assload of money to travel and see them in person, so dont worry, all is not lost in the music world, for every person who owns 100 mp3s someone else owns like 100 albums (me) or even over 1000 (quite a few people around here if Im not mistaken). I do download alot though, I am guilty of that, but I usually go and purchase everything I like anyways, I mainly use downloading as a tool to discover. So if a person does that Im cool with it, what I really hate are these people (and I actually get this alot) "Why would you spend the money on that if you can just download it?". Ugh.

I download also, I'm not saying I'm against it. I think everyone should be able to test a product first before buying it. 30-second clips just offer too little.

But I don't download a lot, because it's overwhelming. Music is special to me, and I get into it. Downloading a lot of music offers me nothing but saturation.

Yeah that's true. Although I see less harm in downloading from a style of music you wouldn't normally lIsten to. For instance, I wouldn't have bought the two SYL albums I own if I hadn't heard one of them first. There's also no damage to, say, King Crimson's market with me recently downloading Red, as its something I would never have paid money for. But now, having heard it, I might.

But yeah, people do suck. There was this little wank at Bloodstock going on about how great Edguy were: "They're the best band in the world (Radagast note: lol)! Just go home and download all their albums!" :lame:

Seeing as how this thread is no longer about Nightwish I feel I can post here

I did a swift calculation to calculate my leech/productive consumer balance

Records I didn't pay for (so, burnt CDs, mp3s and copied cassettes);

449

Records I paid for, or someone else bought for me:

417

zomg the lower category was ahead last time I checked

Although I think a certain proportion of the top statistic are not worth getting guilty over for a variety of reasons (otherwise unavailable, given away with artist's consent etc etc etc).

Ken's right about being overwhelmed: There's also a lot of dled stuff there that I never really wanted and have hardly ever listened to... It just so happened that one day I arbitrarily imported them onto the computer for no reason.
