+1

+1 more nonsensical statement, you mean. Metallica are one of the greatest bands ever, they will never be matched. Between The Buried And Me won't even be talked about in 5 years.

And goddamn, Dimebag will forever be known as one of the greatest guitarists ever! Yes, his riffs are fucking killer!! It's unfortunate that younger fans react this way, it really is. You're missing out on a lot of great music. The opinions almost sound trendy.

Yeah, the Metallica backlash is pretty popular these days. I still consider every album from their 80s period to be a classic, and heck for a mainstream rock album Load was pretty damn good.

Glad to see others with some common sense.

i think Pantera kicked ass, but hey, to each his own, right??

and with all due respect to Burzum and Emperor, for all their influence, you can't say it extended it as many genres as bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden. tons of people like Emperor, but most of them don't show that influence in their music.

you know?

I was only joking about the bm dudes! Although i do think Burzum has influenced shitloads of bands.

And pantera. See, i cant see any good bands they have influenced. er, Lamb of God? And anyway the only GREAT albums were Cowboys from hell and Vulgar display of power.

If we're going by influenced good bands then King Crimson should be #1 on that list.

Who cares if they'll be talked about? That doesn't make their music any better. Listening to Between The Buried and Me was much more memorable for me than hearing Metallica, although both bands can't keep my interest very long.

Hey, I have no issues with people disliking music, it's all this nonsensical Blabbermouth-like talk that bugs me. All this talk about "that band sucks, always have, they influenced no one but shitty bands!" I mean, that's just stupid. I'm sorry.

Dislike bands all you like, no problem, but you can't change history. People saying things like "Who'd they influence? Lamb Of God?" Why are you asking? You're the one making the statement, you should know what you're talking about, right?

For MTV, its an expected and simple list of all mainstream bands. Im sure all of us predicted at least 3/4 of bands from the entire list and honorable mentions.
I think it would be sad but true when we say to these people: "what about Blind Guardian/Edguy/Iced Earth, etc, etc" and they say "who?".

This list isnt important. If I were were to want a list created of the all-time best metal bands, I definatelly wouldnt go to MTV

But, Maiden, Priest, Sabbath & Metallica do derserve to be there.

There was one mistake, it seems SOAD was placed on that list instead of on the WORST metal bands of all time

You've gotta be kidding. Pantera was basically the band that singlehandedly modernized the sound of heavy metal. Vulgar Display Of Power is probably the first "Modern Thrash Metal" album ever produced. Pretty much every metalcore, nu-metal, modern thrash metal, etc. band owes a lot to Pantera for their sound. Hell, even long-established bands like Testament cite Pantera (and in Testament's case, even Machine Head) as a big influence on their later music.

I'd say some Sabbath especially the non Ozzy stuff is heavy metal and a bit of Metallica from ...And Justice is heavy metal. The outside world sees heavy metal, not heavy metal as a genre within metal.

Pantera-Domination

If, after listening to the solo in that song you don't think Dime is completely awesome you might as well go and partake in a huge gay orgy.

I think Testament's worse song is like, a million times better than anything Metallica ever did, but I can see why they're on the list.

Quote:
01. BLACK SABBATH MEH
02. JUDAS PRIEST WOOT
03. METALLICA BAH
04. IRON MAIDEN WOOT
05. PANTERA MEH
06. SLAYER WOOT
07. AC/DC MEH
08. MOTÖRHEAD WOOT
09. KISS BAH
10. MÖTLEY CRÜE BAH

Metal's honorable mentions:

ALICE IN CHAINS BAH
ANTHRAX MEH
FAITH NO MORE WOOT
IN FLAMES MEH
MEGADETH WOOT
MERCYFUL FATE WOOT
MINISTRY WOOT
SEPULTURA WOOT
SYSTEM OF A DOWN WOOT
TOOL WOOT
VAN HALEN BAH
VENOM BAH

Not a bad list, for Mtv.

That's actually a good point. Rush should be on that list.

Dillinger Escape Plan! I was looking through my favourite bands's websites/interviews at work yesterday and their name popped up in pretty much every one of them.

But see, it's a question that doesn't even deserve a response because the bands/musicians they've influenced is countless!! You think I'm going to start naming bands to prove my point? I don't need to! It's fact, music history proven countless times! Do I need to somehow prove that Metallica are one of the greatest metal bands of all time? Absolutely not! They proved that 20 years ago! A question like that doesn't deserve a reply. It's just fact.

I know some of you are young and I hate to throw that out there, but it matters. In the 80's I didn't trash Sabbath and Zeppelin, you know? I don't like Zeppelin, I never really have, but I know their place in history and I will never argue it. Shit, I barely like Maiden. They've never really done it for me, but will you ever see me question their contributions to the metal world, their influence on other bands or the quality of their music? Absolutely not. It just doesn't do it for me like other bands. It doesn't mean they suck.
