If there is an agreement at the time you're sentenced, then you expect that to be honored. Governments break enough promises as it is without having any real checks on their power. And two years? Considering the amount of time he's already been in prison, what is two more years really going to do, ecept spend more tax dollars and make him more disgusted with the legal system?

If they're going to deny him parole, at least give a real reason for it. Hell, he adid attempt to escape at one point so how hard can it be to give a legitimate reason for keeping him there if that's what they want to do?

imo, having found 100 kg explosives and considering he founded a neo-nazi organisation should be sufficient to keep him locked. that plus the fact he only did 12 of the 21 years sentence he is supposed to serve...

Umm, no. Unless of course, you're in favor of jailing people for thought crimes.

The explosives were found before his trial for killing Euronymous. Now, that trial is long over with, and as I recall, the whole explosives thing came up during then anyway. Point is, that's done and over with. He was convicted, he was sentenced, and he's serving his sentence.

But wait!! Suddenly, 9 years in, the government changed its mind and by making the new law retroactive, effectively changed his sentence as well. He's apparently not being given any kind of option to appeal or anything. Now what the fuck is that about? They want him to honor a code that society sets forth, yet they don't want to honor it themselves? How is he supposed to react to this? How would you react?

Do you think that if they made a law that reduced the time (instead of increasing it) to ten years, they'd have made it retroactive? And if they did, how would they handle situations with prisoners who had already put in more time than the new law would require?

Don't be supportive of them for keeping him in prison, and then say, "well, he only did 12 of the 21 years so..." when that falls under the terms of the sentence in the first place. If a citizen is expected to honor the laws and codes of conduct set forth, then so should the government. Instead, they're not exactly setting a good example here, are they?

And btw, there's actually no, "he only did 12 of the 21 years" since he's still in prison and was denied parole.

isn't that the whole point ? you only parole those you find are no danger to the society... considering who Varg is and where his political faith lied I think the norwegian judges have enough reasons to keep in jailed until the term of those 21 years...

Wow, there are sure a lot of idiots here. "Oh, he deserves to be in prison his whole life because he believes in a philosophy I think is bad!" For crying out loud...

Well, I think socialists are bad, so maybe because I think that everyone in prison who's a socialist deserves to be in prison forever. I don't like Christians either, so I think all Christian convicts should never get parole. And people who support convicting people for thought crimes are dangerous, so let's throw them all in jail, too.

The small minds of the masses never cease to amuse/amaze me. So many of you can't even make a distinction between his crimes (the REAL reason he's in prison) and his philosophies. It shouldn't be that difficult to realise the two are unrelated, but I guess maybe there are more people of below average intelligence in this world than I'd like to admit. And also an awful lot of people who cannot and probably never will comprehend the concept of what freedom means.

People get paroled because it costs to much to keep them in prison. If they really weren't a danger to society, you wouldn't have so many convicted child molesters walking around molesting more children and people convicted for selling drugs would not takeup selling them again as soon as they are released from prison. Parole has very little to do with who is or is not a danger to society- it's all about money, because the prison system is very inefficiently run.

You obviously didn't comprehend what I said, and with a post like that one, it's not difficult to see why.

No one in this thread even said he should stay in prison because he's a neo-nazi... the closest it came to that is when i called him a neo-nazi douche.

That is just stupid, keeping someone in prison for political views.

While I agree with you, you come off as a pompous ass. Not bad for someone with 8 posts.

Well, thanks, I do my best. ;) It's no secret that I'm pretty arrogant, but thanks for noticing, anyway. :P

But I wasn't aware that in order to be condescending to others that one had to have accumulated a massive amount of posts first. ;) Post counts are overrated.

The European Human Rights Convention explicitly prohibits ex post facto laws. Let's see if he doesn't get off the hook. Surely they can't keep him locked up for having disagreeable political ideas. Something about freedom of speech and thought that everyone knows already so I will not elaborate further.

Oh, and for the record: Burzum rules...

Tyrion - actually, at least here in Portugal, when a new law brings benefits to people in prison or in trial, it's usually retroactive, though if not then it isn't.

other than that i agree with you, as much as i disagree with Varg's ideals, he's not being treated right.

My comment wasn't meant to be taken as an assault on your character. I have a little pompous ass in myself.
