hmm, I'f finding myself disagreeing with this site more and more in reference to this sort of music. (I loved Lullacry's last two albums but they were criticised here).

I liked this album alot. It's catchy and easy to listen too. There's no atmospheric noise crap or some asshat ruining the melody by growling and grunting like he's in a porno version of beauty and the beast. It's music as I most often want it, not a chore to listen to. I'm not one of these people who can sit just listening to a band and do nothing else. I'm always reading a book, playing video games, travelling or working while doing it.

So I gave it 92.

I totally disagree with the reviewer, this album is very good in it' own rights. Forget what the band has done in the past and judge it for what it is: a Goth rock/metal with lots of atmosphere.
Nell's voice is great, the piano pieces are numerous, some songs border their old style, listen to "Fade" and you'll know what I mean.

Storm has so much more to offer then the inferior Lacuna Coil's Karamcode, yet it gets, ironically, the rating Karmaacode deserved.

'Storm' is not a better song than 'Our Truth'.

i'm not talking about the song but the album in general..
and yes I prefer listening to storm than the bland Our Truth.
When the best song on a CD is a cover (Enjoy the Silence) you know something's wrong.

I don't think OT is bland. I think 'Storm' is, though. What's with the male vocalist? At least Ferro can sing. And it's too repetitive, etc etc.

Ferro is way too present on Karamcode and get's old pretty fast too, especially since he's not such a great singer in the first place. I'd rather hear him growl once in a while like he did in the past.
as for raymond's vocals, I can't say they are may favorite but sometimes they fit perfectly with a song like "Begin and End".
Raymond's vocals are not a factor as Nell get's 85-90% of the vocal lines and that's just perfect to me.

Is he still doing those industrial style vocals? Man those sucked. I prefer him growling, but he said he would never growl again so.....

yeah, spoken industrial type vocals. Nell takes the whole spotlight though.

First good review, but I would score it a tad higher, but when you put out this after genre definers like In Velvet Darkness and Aegis, yeah you take a hit.

This a def 100x better album then Karmacode, easily. Song by song, vocal by vocal, whatever...

I would prob give this a 7.5 out of 10. I like it, but I like Assy and Musique as well. Good come back for a band I would think dead without Liv. In comparison I would give the nu Goth shit fest that is the new LC a 2.5 out of 10.

The chick sounds good hear and like the reviewer said, if you like this, get her shit with the Crest.

And Raymond is def better then that Ferrao dude. I wish he would go back to at least his Aegis style but oh well. At least he knows his limitation and makes the best of it. Ferrao can't get that he never could sing worth a shit and tries to hard, he was a lot better when he semi growled too.

People, please, feel free to disagree, but how many times do we have to tell you - reviews to different albums are written by different people. I could care less how Marty scores Karmacode, he is entitled to give it 100/100, but I am not goign to score something "because of how he did it". There is no collective brain on this site, there is no committee that decides that ALL reviewed albums have to follow some grand design scheme. Do I personally like Storm better than Karmakode? Yes, but this is beyond the point.
Now, to the review. Storm is OK, but could have been better, witness the "derivative" The Crest pulling off a catchier, less repetitive album. (And if you are a serious fan of this style, which I am most definitely not, do yourself a favor and get Vain City Chronicles. I betcha you will like it). The second half of the album runs together almost completely, male vocals are definitely a weak point, so Nell has to save the day. There are definitely standout tracks (Fade, Storm), but there are also outright fillers. I am going to have to stand by my score. Like I said, when you define the genre with your earlier albums, the bar will remain high.

Thats the problem, Storm shouldn't be compared to their earlier material it's a totally different genre. It's a good album on it's own merits.

You don't think 68/100 is good?

I think it is about perfect actually, I would go a bit higher but I really like this style and I am really shocked it didn't outright suck. Nell impressed me.

when you get a 68 on 100 on an exam are you satisfied ?
I hope not. Storm deserves at least a minimum of 75%
in my opinion. I'm not trying to pull a fight or disrespect your point of view here, I'm simply stating why I disagree with it.

Point well taken. I am so glad we are able to keep the discussion civil. From the little that you (or I) have posted I think I understand your tastes well, and I believe this well-crafted album deserves the higher score in your eyes.
And when I was a student (my graduate defense having ended in 1997) I tried to shoot for 100/100 on the exam. :)

You know what I think? (This is why I come to this site by the way) I think it is cool you give a fair and honest review most Metal sites would shit on or give to someone who hated the style to write some stupid review they though was funny but was really just ignorant. That is exactly why I visit this site because you review stuff fairly agree or not agree about it.

I try to do it fairly. I'd never shit on somebody else's work, just like I would not want anybody to shit on mine. And if I didn't like something I always try and explain myself. Glad to know you like the site.

This was a nice cd, but a bit to popish. Too bad Theatre of Tragedy has left their darker music behind.
