Stratovarius last night, had a helluva good time there. A really damn good gig indeed!

They roxors live.

Last night I saw Anthrax. And they were damn great! None of that John Bush-era pish, thanks very much. :D My only complaints were the lack of Deathrider and Anti-Social, and I could've done without I'm the Man (but it is quite funny to see live).

Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Krisiun and Despised Icon last night. It was kind of pathetic how obvious is was that DI was only added to the bill to try and draw in the 'core kids to sell more tickets; the floor nearly empty during their set. Everyone else ranged from great to amazing. I'm so sore today, though - the crush was nuts.

Any sentence with those two words in it, is frightening.

Coming up in a week: No Mercy fest.

No Mercy 2006 - SoK's perspective

Psycroptic: missed due to arriving too late. Bugger.
Grimfist: missed due to excessive lunch. Blimey.
Norther: saw half of it, extremely boring.
Ajattara: Cool gig really, professionally played. Guitars too low in the mix, sadly.
Belphegor: Dreadful, off to the bar.
1349: Okay, apart from the gay corpsepaint and ditto gestures. Didn't play much from Beyond the Apocalypse, sadly. I think only Nekronatalenheten.
Sinister & Legion of the Damned: had two lovely pizzas at my best friend's place. Yum.
Mayhem: excellent! Only two or three shitty newer songs, the rest was Deathcrush, Funeral Fog, Life Eternal, The Freezing Moon. Atilla wasn't even that gay.
Kataklysm: horrible whining. Absolutely ridiculous that they get to play after Mayhem.
Cannibal Corpse: saw two songs, then went home. Drunk, tired, irritated.

Saterday

Cult of Luna
These guys play some pretty cool music, but the vocalist is horrible live. Sorta let down I guess. Must have been a huge hassel for these guys when they were a demo band, can't imagine fitting 7 people on a tiny stage, they had trouble on a big stage. :D

Evergray
Ugh, evergay.

Katatonia
Weak sound and once again, great musically, but the vocals just didn't work out too good. Could be due to bad sound on stage, but he was off key quite a bit, and I'm pretty picky about stuff like that.

Nifelheim
Haha, seriously, wtf is wrong with these guys? Horrible stage show, horrible vocals, untight as fuck, and just plain awful. Saw a few tracks then I went to drink beer, :]

Satyricon
WOAH. I'd heard a lot of shit about the new album being crap, but holy fuck did Satyricon rule live. The new tracks, pure black 'n roll, were awsome live. Naturally, great tracks such as 'Filthgrinder', 'Mother North' and 'A moment of Clariy' were great too.

Sunday

Amon Amarth
I really like Amon Amarth, but can't they start wearing clothes at thier gigs? Johan Hegg has an impressive beerbelly that I don't want to see swaying around whilst he headbangs. Great band that really gets the audience going, massive headbanging and good songs. For once they were even tight!

Bolt Thrower
Absolute highlight of the festival! Amazing how great their music works live. Just flawless quite simply. Probably seeing them again on the 21st, with Kataklysm as support.

Opeth
I was pretty tired once Opeth came on stage. Mikael is a funny guy, I remember the first time I saw Opeth, he barely thanked the crowd after the songs, now he's a comedian. Great stuff! They played some odd songs last night, sadly enough some of thier songs can get a bit too long live I think. I'm also a bit dissapointed that they didin't play 'The Moor'.

All in all, a great festival. It was very very well organized and I really hope that they will continue doing this every year.

.:crast:.

No Mercy festival in Tilburg (Netherlands):
- Ajatarra: played a pretty good set. Warming up the crowd a little for the rest of the night, being less brutal.
- Sinister: can't remember all of it, but i think i was pretty good
- Psycroptic: pretty good too, but...
- Legion of the Damned: ...who played at the same time was better.I switched stages halfway.
- Nother: I hate the arogance of the leadsinger (also of Ensiferum), but the music was pretty good.
-Pro-Pain: Always very good! Time to jump around. Great gig and nice talking to the guitarist after the gig.
- Mayhem: sucked bigtime...one big blur
- Kataklysm: Absolutely great! Good interaction with the crowd and brutal metal!
- Cannibal Corpse: together with Kataklysm the highlights of the evening. Huge moshpit! I only think they should interact more with the crowd. They just played there songs and left.

I'll be seeing Arsis, Necrophagist, and Neuraxis on May 5th (I think that's the right date). I can't wait to see Arsis. I've really grown to like that band a lot.

Coming up for me:
Jon Oliva's Pain with Elvenking and Crusified Barbara.
I hope Jon is playing lots of Savatage songs, but I'm also curious to new songs from the upcoming album wich he might play. Crusified Barbara are like five Swedish chicks playing metal. Sounds good to me too!

What, am I a poser now? Belphegor's music translated badly into a live situation, Kataklysm I find terrible on album and live was the same, and Cannibal Corpse failed to interact with the audience and thus made for a boring show.
