I'm trying to compile a CD for Charlotte Martin, she plays a lot of covers live and is interested in hearing some songs she may not know. I'm going to see her Tuesday so I'm going to bring a CD or two of tracks. I'm looking for heavy songs that have been done as piano versions, I know there are tons, but so far I can only think of:

Edguy - Superheroes
Queensryche - Someone Else?
Lullacry - Crucify My Heart

What are some others?

Twisted Sister - Be cruel to your school
AC/DC - Ride On
Deep Purple - Child in Time

also, Tori Amos did a killer piano version of Nirvana's Smell like teen spirit, check it out

and since piano is a superior melodic instrument it allows to play pretty much every song you'd like... 8)

She did one for Raining Blood too, but that one sucked (from my point of view).

The Bad Plus have done a piano trio version of Iron Man.

I kind of misread your original post... :oops: so okay, the first two have Piano bu no piano version... but I'm sure I heard a cover (piano version) of DP's Child in Time... I just can't remember who did it... ho a,d there's a "guitar-free" version of Speed King on DP's 25th Anniversary version of In Rock 8)

I don't mind this kind of thing on in the backgroundm but I get bored with it if I'm just listening to it. Talented gels, though.

The piano version MUST to be on the CD.

It's a change of pace, dude. I get seriously sick of listening to one style of music all the time. I go through phases. I don't listen to chicks on piano and guitar all the time, but it's a nice change of pace when I do.

I can't dig on the more poppy, rock-oriented chick singers, though. I like the more mellow, thoughtful work, rather than the sappy-catchy-poppy stuff. Plus, Emm Gryner covered Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me," Ozzy's "Crazy Train," Therapy's "Nowhere" and fucking Fugazi's "Waiting Room." That's a badass chick, if you ask me! She's also sang back up vocals on Rob Zombie's solo albums.

Green Carnation - Child's Play. The thing is gradually a slow rock song in the first part, the second part is piano with vocals, and the third part is just piano.

In a Time of Blood & Fire was re-recorded by Nocturnal Rites in 2004 as a piano version. Its just great - spine-tingling stuff. I really don't see why they feel the need to overdo it with backing vocals and multi-tracking when Jonny has such a brilliant natural voice.

On New World Messiah? I don't see it listed. Was it a bonus track? Nocturnal Rites are a band that I've been meaning to complete my collection of. I only have Tales Of Mystery And Imagination and The Sacred Talisman.

EDIT: It's a bonus track on Lost In Time then? It lists it and has a clip on their site. Good stuff.

Yes that's right. By the way, you have probbaly the two best albums, possible the debut it better than Sacred Talisman. They really changed direction when Anders left.

I've heard one song from the new album, "Still Alive" or something. It sounds like a heavy rock song, but I thought it was really good.

The new album is their best since Jonny became the vocalist as far as I'm concerned. Its less complex and speedy than the old stuff but everything seems to have finally clicked with the direction they've been taking on the last three albums this time around (the middle album, Afterlife, is a bit of an oddity in their catalogue - almost speed metal).
