I can only comment on their recent stuff, the more operatic metal stuff with just a little death metal. Personally I think it's great! Their early stuff is what I'm working on, but it's been hard to locate. Luckily they seem to have gotten a sweet distro deal here because a good number of their early albums are available for $9.99 now, which I'll be buying, of course.

If I have read correctly, they've done something similar to what Tiamat did, although Tiamat are much more gothic and doomy now. Definitely check them out, the Sirius B/Lemuria album is amazing!

I can be helpful here, as I own every full-length Therion ever made. Eyesore is right about their newer stuff, and it is great material. I'll divide their discography into two sections, before the album "Theli" was released and every since then. On Theli they added choirs and have never looked back, becoming more and more progressive until Lemuria/Sirus B which was a bit of a return to the roots. My favorite pre-Theli albums are Beyond Sanctorum and Lepacca Klifforth. Beyond Sanctorum is really heavy and fairly technical death metal with some curveballs thrown in. Lepacca Klifforth does remind me a lot of early Tiamat or even early Samael. It's kinda deathy/black metal with keyboards and a little progressive influence. If you have questions about the more recent and progressive material just ask, I'm sure a lot of us could point you in the right direction.

One thing about Therion, they always give the fans their money's worth. Last time around they gave us two albums for the price of one and now a 6 disc set of all kinds of goodies.

It is very hard for me to pick a fav Therion disc, but I have all of them going back to Theli in '96. I'm not a death metal fan, so I've not heard their early work.

The cool thing about the last 6 albums is you can pick any one of them randomly and find a very enjoyable outing for the ears. The songwriting is fantastic through out. If you're not into symphonies and choirs, this may not be for you (although they also have a ton of heavy riffage accompanying the orchestras).

Cool stuff, they have never put anything together on dvd, so this is a nice thing they are doing by putting all of this material for us to see.

If they have some footage from their concert in bogota, colombia, I will probably see myself in there, cool.

On the other hand a nice starting point to listen to therion is the Theli album, that is one of my all time favorite albums. All albums after theli are amazing, too, and if you are fan of death metal, you can check the earlier albums.

first theres the iron maiden dvd.......now this?!!! fuck!!!! im gonna be broke!!

deffinitely a must have!

by the way, i still feel Theli is their greatest album. Lemuria and Sirius B were good as well, but it was Theli who kept the ball rolling. second best is Secret of the Runes.
