What didn't you like about it? How many times did you listen to it or did you just hear one song and base it on that? Be more specific.

I must admit that my expectations for "Metal Black" were very high. However, this album falls a tad short of what I expected and will take several listens in order to be fully appreciated.

Ok, I respect your opinion but...did you expect a masterpiece from a band that hasn't released anything spectacular in about 20 years?

I have listened to it for one time fully.
It was very boring and straight forward so i decided to not give it another round.

Maybe i'll give it another spin but i am pretty sure i won't like it any better.

WRONG! Try listening to the album "Resurrection".....that my friend, is what you call a MASTERPIECE!! From the production, musicianship, the songs overall, etc. KICKS ASS from start to finish!

Ok I'm going to listen to this once I get back from my break (20 minutes). I go in with no previous Venom experience apart from Black Metal (the song) and some other song with a riff that sounded suspiciously like 2 Minutes to Midnight.

I suppose you could just say it has "rustic charm".

This new album is a lot more polished, and with a heavier crunch to the sound. Also a bit slower and more groove orientated a little bit, if that's your kind of thing.

In a word: yes. Early Bathory, heck, even early Sodom and Destruction are much, much better. Motorhead as well. They may have started Black Metal, but they do nothing for me.

Hell no dude! They have been around for 25 years now. Sure, some albums and songs are better than others. Older Venom was very raw and the production sucked but the songs are classics. Some of the later Venom albums improved on production but the songs were not as good due to line changes and all. I recomment "At War With Satan", "Calm Before The Storm", "Resurrection" and this new one. 8)

Just finished listening to it for the first time in a long time. I'll jack my score up from 60 to 70. Good album, nothing spectacular, but very enjoyable.

Maybe it's the fact I've now got a couple of the classic Venom albums that raised my appreciation of this one a bit.

I take back my "some utter cack" comment - no really bad songs on here, a few iffy ones and some really good ones.

I still think Bathory et al are better, but I was silly to call them complete toss.

This my opinion of venom:

They are an abolutely atrocious band that is better left a intriguing mystery than actually be listened to. Thier music is shit and thier image contrived as hell. That said, everyone loved the image and by extension listened to the records. Some people can't help but love the shlock that is horrible old black metal. My theory is that this is based 100% on the "legacy" these bands somehow created. In other words, there's been so much discussion about these bands since so few were so terrible and one-dimensionally influencial. Every poorly written and executed black metal band of the era can cite venom's lack of ability as the inspiration to start making thier own half-assed brand of music. What I am saying is these guys had a lot of passion and really wanted to have a good band, but they lacked any of the techical skill necessary to play music that is enjoyable and sorely lacked the originality and songwriting ability to be worth a fuck. Thier name has been brought up by more famous brand names so thier material has taken on a life of its own and become "legendary" despite its lack of ability to stand on it's own two feet.

Try burning a venom album and labelling it as some demo from a local band, see how many people think it is any good.

Unquestioningly like Venom or die!!

PS: Venom truly is 50% hit and 50% miss with all their songs.
