From that list, Master of Puppets, but my (probably) favourite solo of all time is Pantera-Domination.

Don't really have one, but I like Meshuggah's noodly ones, and all the mad Tech-Death ones that go all over the place for about half a second are awesome. See: Cryptopsy - Carrionshine

From the list Metallica. I'm not a big solo fan though.

the stairway solo is amazing. it's not that fast, but it's totally cool. rythmically it's extremely difficult and it's IMPROVISED!!!

it's a bit short-termed, but I tryed to get various styles in a not-so-long list. I admit there's some stuff missing, but just vote wich of these you think is coolest. not fastest, coolest.

My favourite guitar solo is probably still Tornado of Souls, but really most of Marty Friedman's solos rox0rz.

As for best "extreme" soloists it's hard to say, but Vogg from Decapitated can be relied upon to produce some great work.

I concur. But there are so many killer metal solos, and so many great solos outside of metal, that i can't really pick just one.

Ehm Death's Crystal Mountain solo is awesome, but I like it better (just the solo) from the Necrophagist's cover.

I love the (very short) solo Kirk does on "The Shortest Straw" (yeah, i know, this is not a very good song)...

also Edward Van Halen has some kick ass short melodic soli (not to mention Eruption) 8)

I like the one on the first song of Ulver - Bergtatt a fucking lot as well, so much emotion

And then there is the spacey Hawkwind stuff...

The guitar solo in Testament's "Return To Serenity" is the best solo ever written! It's fucking awesome!
