as someone who got into more extreme metal* through bands like Children of Bodom and Soilwork

*by more extreme i don't mean extreme metal, i just mean metal more extreme than metallica or slayer.

just starting off with Obituary is like jumping into the pool in the deep end when you cant' even swim.

i started with bodom and cº and now i like misery index, cannibal corpse etc (i don't mean to say they're totally br00tal, but you get the point).

Omnium Gatherum, Enforsaken. The thing is I got out of Melo-Death Metal a long time ago, but I still listen to Amon Amarth. Wait for a few months and you'll fuckin' love them! Have you heard Dark Tranquillity's Skydancer? or The Mind's I?

Into Eternity and Insomnium might be bands you could be looking forward to, in the future that is ( or now!).

Mikki. Welcome to the forums. I apologise for the arseholes, it's a social hazard. Carnifex Umbris is the local melodeath expert, her suggestions'll do you right, but I'd suggest listening to a song by Dark Tranquility calle "ThereIn", from their Projector album. It's got mixed harsh and clean vocals, and is a brilliant song, the video's on Yahoo music. Other than that, I'm not much of a melodeath expert, but I hope you find what you're looking for. Enjoy your time here, and please stick around...

Oh, and Mikki, you might like Amorphis' latest album, called "Eclipse". Here's the band's MySpace, the song's called Leaves Scar, give it a couple of listens.

...Define Infinity also mentioned four really good bands. As for the future, you'll be lucky to get into some more brutal stuff. Vehemence, for example.

The only band missing from this thread is Disillusion. They are fabulous.

If you're going to listen to pseudo metal shit like that, you can fuck right off. It's no indication whatsoever of what metal is about and shouldn't be given a second listen.

Grow yourself some balls and start with the classics of the genre, then if you still think N*FlAyMeZ is worth listening to, you can just give up on the genre completely.

[Moderator: You could have made your point without flaming the guy. Totally out of line.]

Listen to this guy! He speaks the truth! Go back to the classics!

Start with Queen! I recommend you A Night At The Opera,Sheer Heart Attack and News of the World! Don't be afraid:Freddie Mercury doesn't use growl vocals!

Also check these: Led Zeppelin-Physycal Graffitti
Deep^Purple- In Rock
Black Sabbath- Paranoid
Judas Priest-Sad Wings of Destiny
Motorhead-Overkill
Rush-2112
Thin Lizzy-Jailbreak
AC DC -Let There Be Rock
Scorpions-Virgin Killer
Blue Oyster Cult-Secret Treaties
Alice Cooper- School's Out
Kiss-Destroyer
Aerosmith-Rocks
Van Halen-st
Obituary-Slowly We Rot

ENJOY!

Stub, why don't you just go die? You're not helpful, not interesting, and everything you post irks anyone with a lone brain cell or more still functioning.

Threadstarter:
I'd recommend Cipher System and maybe some power-ish metal with clean vocals, like Iced Earth, apart from Carnifex's suggestions.

Yay, stub! I know we can always count on you for timely and relevant music suggestions!

Bah. Look at me. I've been reduced to a pathetic stub basher.

Hope you'll recover soon, nevertheless.
