Get Dream Evil's second album, Evilized.

Also, listen to the people talking about Lost Horizon (the first album is more aggressive and intense, the second more complex and...erm, dreamlike[/gay]) and Hibria.

As for Firewind, the album that reminds most of Dream Evil is their debut, Between Heaven & Hell, but Burning Earth (the second) is my favourite. Forged by Fire is a very good album too, but probably their least aggressive.

And make sure to follow up on Angel Dust.

Kiuas debut is a good one if you want to avoid the cheesy factor. Also you might try Winterlong last 2 albums - Winterlong and Metal/Technology...they are quite heavy for pm.
Good luck with your new-found power metal obsession.

Okay, so far...

Firewind- Burning Earth/Between Heaven and Hell are both very good albums. I love the riffage (shut up, it's a valid word) and the vox are surprisingly ungay.

Kamelot - Epica is great.

All the Angel Dust I've had a shot at is really, really good. I like the emphasis on riffs over voice or keys.

Dragonforce - Valley of the Damned is much better than Inhuman Rampage that I can tell. Black Winter Night is my fave-DF song as of yet.

I'm gonna give Trooper of Steel's suggestions a whirl later on.

Variants of the above also count as being the above.

Zad: This is my moment in the power metal sun, shhh.

VOTD is a good album. Sure it smells of "very first album", but there a lot of great tracks on there and an awesome ballad.

Dead Machine: Just to make your search easier, the albums of the bands i mentioned should be the ones you look for first.

Human Fortress- Defender of the Crown
Messiah's Kiss- Metal
Mystic Prophecy- Regressus or Savage Souls
Thunderstone- any album
Dionysis- Anima Mundi (check spelling)
Highlord- any album
Black Abyss- Angels Wear Black or Land Of Darkness

and i just thought of another band : Guardians Of Time. Check out their latest album "Machines of Mental Design".

ooo, and another band: Insania (of Stockholm). Check out "Sunrise In Riverland", "Fantasy - A New Dimension" or their latest album (not sure of the title).

I like the vocals, I like the speed, I like the technical guitar riffs and the tasteful keyboards, which play cool melodies.

Trooper- I gotcha.

You don't mind the silliness of the lyrics, the gayness of the choruses, the overall "retarded happy metal" feeling, the guitar and Keyboard wankery?I thought you hated Rhapsody...

That prooves you need to give Queen a listen or two to make up your mind.
-First,there's no guitar wankery in Queen:Brian May is known to be the guy that brings the good solo at the good moment,to bring the extra plus to the song
-Happy metal?Stone Cold Crazy,Prophet's Song,White Man,Let Me Entertain You,Princes of the Universe ,Death on 2 Legs are not happy at all!
-The Gayness of the Choruses?Tie Your Mother Down,Save Me,I Want it all,Show Must Go On,Made in Heaven We Will Rock You have some of the most ballsy choruses ever
-Silliness of the lyrics? are you joking?Check the lyrics from:Innuendo,Who Wants to live Forever,These Were the Days of our Lives for serious lyrics;then Bicycle Race,Killer Queen,Seaside RendezVous,Bring Back that Leroy Brown for some tasty tongue in cheek lyrics;and Bohemian Rhapsody for both serious and tongue in cheek!

All in all ,you need some other arguments to attack this band!Try again!

Firstly, I was joking. I know I've got this great image as the grumpiest guy this side of Walter Matthau, but not every post I make has to be taken as a declaration of friggin' war, ok?

Anyway, to actually answer, you know more about them. All I'm saying is, what I've heard has put me off.

This statement proves that you are deaf. I've met a couple of deaf people, I feel your pain stub. It all makes sense now.

I know you are joking, but my examples were more for the young PMheads around, who think like you about Queen.

My advice, try the less known side of Queen!
