Seriously though, I can't decide.
On a side note, I'll just say that I like the way Deris handled the pressure. It must have been hell for him. Kiske was so great, so influential, that even today, even though Deris has put out almost twice as many albums as Kiske with Helloween, he's still not quite out of Kiske's shadow. And I think he's had a lot of insecurities. When I saw them live a few weeks ago, after Deris introduced the band, Gerstner introduced Deris as "the best singer in Helloween's history", which can be interpreted as the band trying to show Deris their support, which means he's probably had a tough time. It must have been tough, and I respect him for carrying on and not quiting.

It's hard for a replacement singer to find his rightful place in a band especially if you replace such a great vocalist like Kiske.Tim Owens has a long road ahead for him in Iced Earth so you have to feel for guys like that who are just trying to do a job.

Wish fans would get off their cases already

Yeah, because it's the fans fault that Iced Earth totally suck now, and that Tim Owens himself is awful.

But I pretty much agree on Deris. I just find it strange when bands replace a vocalist with someone totally weird. Iced Earth and Helloween both replaced melodic, powerful, and dare I say majestic vocalists, with grating and, some might say, unfitting new guys.

I actually think that Deris' voice fits Helloween better than Kiske did. Kiske was good, but i think Deris' voice is perfect for the latest era of Helloween. Kiske nowdays just wouldnt sit right with their current style.
As with Iced Earth, they never suck and never will. Ripper Owens is a fantastic vocalist, not only with Priest but now with IE. Let's see how he goes with their next album before people start to bag him.

Thing is, I don't care what the next album sounds like, because I can't stand his voice. I think it's terrible. That isn't about to change anytime soon. I realize he is a pretty technically sound vocalist, I just don't like his voice.

To a much lesser degree, Deris also bothers me. He has a strange voice and it doesn't work as well to my ears as yours.

Andi Deris sucks. So do his lyrics, and the songs that accompany them.

I thought you were a fan of Rabbit Don't Come Easy.

I find it odd that there are so many votes for Kiske. I mean, we've already seen that there is an overwhelming dislike for Chameleon and Pink Bubbles Go Ape from the polls we did. So that leaves the first two Keeper albums from the Kiske era. I'm sorry, as great as those albums are I'm not going to vote for Kiske when there are 6 excellent Deris albums out there.

I don't even feel that the first two Keeper albums are their best albums, not even close, in my opinion. They definitely have some of thier best songs, but I find Better Than Raw and Keeper III to be better than the original two Keeper albums. Influence-wise, sure, those albums are the two standouts, but for me they're not the best.

Yeah, I don't dislike the Deris-era of Helloween, his voice is just strange and a bit irritating at times.

I don't really find it odd. I see what you're saying but like I said earlier, Helloween can pump out as many albums as they want and it will never top the early stuff. Now, that's just me, but obviously there are others with a similar stance.

For me Kiske's voice is perfect, and the work he did in Helloween was amazing, and backed by my favorite songwriting of the band's career. It's a simple as that.

I find Kiske can sound very strained when he is trying to sing in the higher registers. Not my favorite vocalist.

No doubt, Kiske is an amazing vocalist, but I can't fathom the thought of what the band would sound like today if he hadn't left the band. *shudders*

Good point there. no matter how bad anyone thinks Deris is, another Chameleon would have been disastrous.

IMO (and i know you dont share this point of view) the real loss for Helloween was when Kai Hansen left, after that helloween has never been the same, no matter how much you think Weikath was the real genious and whatever, who knows?, maybe was Hansen influence that made Weikath write in that style.

Or maybe it was sheer competition which drove them to greater heights.

True, but I'd rather have the new Helloween plus Gamma Ray rather than just Gamma Ray with some Helloween-isms (Kai would have taken over vocals again when Kiske inevitably left).

1st-i don'd dislike Chameleon and PBGA
2nd-the 6 Deris album are far from excelent
3rd-Better than Raw has to be their weakest effort

Of course ,that's just my opinion,...but anyone is allowed to share it with me.
