I never claimed to be a black metal fan. I'm a complete death metal fiend. I just dabble in Black metal.

Too much black metal sound like this:

Meh, who needs Darkthrone? The band that invented their sound, Tormentor (the Hungarian band), pretty much pwns them all the way: ELIZABETH BATHORYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Well, Darkthrone more or less copied their sound from Tormentor. And their Anno Domini pwns Darkthrone's stuff.

Their music isn't that much like Tormentor. How do you know they copied them, how do you know they even heard them ? Darkthrone never claimed to be unique, they admit that they got influenced by Celtic Frost and stuff. They take pride in being old school black metal. 1 album against a whole black metal legacy which spawned countless wannabees, you're making a weak case here.

aaah... that leads us to a very important rule for real metalheads.. if you don't like a certain band/type of music and you don't know many bands in the catagory, you begin to bash the band and suggest the fans should go listen to another band that slayes them all... hence they should ditch their previous band and start listening to only one band in the catagory ( doesn't matter if it's Opeth or Darkthrone or whatever) - most likely less known act. But when ppl ask to the music you like, don't suggest 1 band that slayes them all ( cuz you know there's a lot of good band, that slayes, in the catagory you like) but suggest 10-20 bands ( and if you want to do it right, you only suggest bands that can't be bought anywhere else than from an underground label, that's soo underground that it doesn't even know it exist itself - and the owners of the label/distro are trolls living under the Himalaya mountains)

Yes they do sound alike, but that doesn't mean they heard Tormentor and if you know a little about them you should know that they were more into electronica techno stuff before they started Dakthrone and they probably had not heard a romanian band which nobody cared for at the time, since there is no internet or no such thing as a black metal scene. Even if they were Tormentor fans they would say it like they said they were influenced by Bathory and Celtic Frost. There is no proof that they were influnced by Tormentor but half of my music collection tells me that many people were influenced by Darkthrone.

Ok, so maybe they didn't hear it, then why deserves Darkthrone more praise than Tormentor? Because they were Norwegian and well known? I still do think they heard them though, Mayhem is directly connected to them on De Mysteriis. Anyways, the is no such thing as saying "If you don't like Darkthrone, you didn't get the clue of Black Metal", reasons are trivial.

1. Yargh!
2. Thankee. Having to review that, along with hearing Too Old, Too Cold got me back into them.
