Post subject:  New QUEEN thread (dedicated to Zad)

As i said before in another thread, there are 2 different Queen:the one you hear on the radio(mainly radio friendly pop rock and hard FM/AOR);and the trOO Queen for the die-hards,which is amazing!

Chronologicaly there are also 2 different Queen:73-79=the Queen vintage, with no synthesizers, with huge creativity quite close to prog rock, and also with lots of pre Power metal songs, and even pre Speed thrash songs;80-91=the mainstream Queen, with synthesizers, incursions into disco and pop territory...and still some great hard rock anthems;also their last album, innuendo, being somehow special, with some prog and heavy influences coming back in the end.

All in all an admirable career, since even during the 80s disco/pop period ,the quality and class is still there.

That's of course only my humble opinion;but what is yours?

Well, I discover Queen in the pop era, with The works. I was young, and "Radio GAGA" sounds everywhere (as, months later, "I want to breek free"). I was not very interested in that, while I listened Rush, Maiden, Judas, AC/DC. But the next album I listened was Live killers, and was a great discover. Songs as Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, Death on two legs or Don't stop me now, changed the way I looked to that band.
In my car, as my wife doesn't like Metal (but love hard rock), Queen (specially the 75-79 albums) sounds a lot of times.

I know News is your favorite album, but you have to admit it's their least proggy from the 70s;so maybe it's not the best for Lizzardtail.. If i were him ,i'd try Queen II,ANATO or Sheer Heart Attack.

Make this make sense to me. Why would you not put a space between a comma and a word? Or any other punctuation mark?

One Vision (from 1985, during their "pop period") is actually my favorite Queen song. Though, of course, that was one of their more hard rocking songs from that era. It's also (much like Real American, Hulk Hogan's old theme) a rare example of a moralistic rock song done right.

Both eras churned out some great songs. In the 70's, we had Bohemian Rhapsody (of course), Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bicycle Race, Somebody To Love, Tenament Funster, Stone Cold Crazy (listen to this song for possibly the earliest example of proto-thrash metal), etc. The 80s gave us Another One Bites The Dust, Under Pressure, It's A Hard Life, etc. As well as the occasional clunker (Play The Game).

Indeed, they sound a lot like Queen, especially the lead guitars.

And, by 70s standards Queen were at least as metal as Blind Guardian, by 90s standards, imo.

Its the vocal harmonies too, very much like queen. And having an album called night at the opera, clearly paying homage to Queen.
