I'm not sure if anyone around here is a fan of A.F.I. but if you are then check out some new tracks from their recent release 'Crash Love'. It's not bad and a departure from the last album 'December Underground'.

The last time I heard them was in the Goth stage, and was meh on them then. Looks like they've gone a bit Stereophonics now.

I discovered them when I heard The Art of Drowning album and subsequently have kept up with them ever since. I have not given a listen to albums prior to TAOD. AFI have continually progressed more toward pop/rock while attempting to keep an alternative flair to their sound. I think the new one almost has them sounding more like 30 Seconds To Mars.

Their mid-period was outstanding. Black Sails in the Sunset, The Art of Drowning, and the three or four EPs. All killer. And their early albums are great, too.

I can dig a band changing directions, when there's no apparent reason beyond artistic change. Musicians change and their music reflects it, and not every punk band can be Bad Religion (who do rule, but have hardly changed at all). But Sing the Sorrow was a clear switch to hit the gothy-emo crowd, and the emo shit took over after that.

They're still a good band, but...

Really?

Maybe their second album, but not the first. The first, by the way, is absolutely brilliant! They dumbed it down on the follow-up, but that's still decent. But again, it was geared toward that emo contingent. Kind of sad, because the debut ruled.

I'm afraid that says it all. I felt the same way when I saw the look that Motley Crue went for on 'Theatre of Pain'.

Downloading now, hope I'm not disappointed. Ken's advice is usually on the spot.
