First, let's not forget Michael on Lonesome Crow but let's face also that two axemen have marked the history of Scorpions: Uli Roth and Mathias Jabs.

The point of this thread is not to debate which was the best, Uli wins easily but what era of Scorpions you prefer.

For me, there's not doubt, Roth's Scorpions not only brought us timeless classics, it was also a much better band than Jabs' Scorpions.

Roth. But Jabs it's very close, and the first 4 albums with Jabs are great records.

Roth, but I dig Jabs' chops, too.

Uli without a doubt. Jabs is a good guitar player, but he can't even hold a candle to Uli Jon Roth, both in terms of songwriting and technical ability. Uli is one of the greatest ever. And let's not forget that Michael Schenker played on three scorpions albums...he played on their best album of the 80's....Lovedrive.

My mistake, ha ha, this album was released in '79, and Jabs played most of the parts on it, but Michael did play 3 solos on it. Wow, I was way off.

Very tough to compare as you are essentially comparing the cream of 70s metal/rock with the cream of commercial 80s metal/rock. I can't really decide as I barely consider the two eras to be the work of the same band.
