That's right. AIC has posted their first new song in more than a decade on their Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/aliceinchains And it's surprisingly good. It sounds like AIC is continuing the more sludgy sound they had on Tripod, except of course with a new vocalist (who's surprisingly good, might I add) and more modern production. I'm looking forward to the new album now (which is due on September 29, exactly 17 years after Dirt's release). |

This doesn't come as such a shock to those that got into Jerry's solo stuff. Its also probably not a coincidence that the first new material we hear with their new singer is one dominated vocally by Cantrell. The song's terrific IMO. The September release seems like an eternity away now. |

Zad, could you or somebody else move this to the Hard Rock board? It really doesn't belong in the "Avant-garde, alt-metal, and other borderline genres" board. Fatpom wrote: This doesn't come as such a shock to those that got into Jerry's solo stuff.
I LOVE Boggy Depot! I really have no idea why that album seems to get so little love. |

Sounds great. Thanks for mentioning this here. I'll be sure to pick up the cd once it's released. ![]() |

I dig it too, but its less immediate isn't it? Took a while to grow on me. I somewhat understand it being overlooked. I actually think Degradation Trip is the better album overall, certainly the 2 disc version. Its a damn shame all that material didn't get released under the AIC banner where it would've received the attention it deserved. |

It doesn't belong under hard rock. You had it right the first time. Who cares, though. Still love this new track. The more I listen to it, though, the more I hear the new guy. Really solid. I actually have this singer's old band's album. Band's called Madfly. I picked it up from the $2 bin ages ago. It's pretty shitty. ![]() |

Another single was released, so I figured it time to bump this thread. I would have to agree, despite my skepticism of a Staley-less AiC, that Looking in View is awesome. Feels so good to hear them again, though I too enjoyed Cantrell's solo stuff. I suppose I should have known this would still kick ass, seeing how Jerry was always the driving force. I really don't even mind that they got a borderline Layne Staley impersonator to sing, kind of makes me feel nostalgic. The second single, Check My Brain, I'm not so sure about yet. Its just OK to me at this point, but AiC has had a tendency to grow on me in the past. |

Layne always got far more credit for vocals he never sang. They still sound like Alice because Jerry played a HUGE role in the vocal department. |

I know, but his voice was still an integral part of the sound and impossible to replace. If they would have gotten someone who sounds nothing like Layne to sing, it wouldn't sound like AiC. Then again, I think we all know Jerry's always been the heart and soul of the band though, and the only member whose absence would seriously alter the sound. |

I want to really hear the new guy. I don't think he sounds a lot like Layne, you know. I think Jerry's harmonizing gives that impression more than it really is. I want to hear the new guy sing most of a song alone. Either way, I think the album will be great. |

You guys DO realize, though, that Layne sounded pretty different on Tripod than he did just five years earlier on Facelift. In fact, I get the impression Toby Wright did a lot of studio tricks with his vocals on that album, because of how sick he had become. I'm listening to Check Your Brain right now. I'm impressed. This sounds just like it could've come out of the Dirt sessions. Although Cantrell's lyrics are similar to his work on Boggy Depot. |

You're probably right, but he sounded fine on Unplugged. Either way, it will never be the same without him, but these two songs are encouraging at least, especially the first one. Looks like it'll be another AiC day one buy for me. |
