Too quick! I deleted my reply. I have this weird thing about replying to posts that were posted before my last post. Hahaha.

But I agree.

i never found anythign interestign in the old peppers. When they did californication i thought it was great. By the way had some interesting uses of different styles on it. It had there funky radio hits but the it had wierd songs like cabro and (i don't know if this is the title) Lemon trees on mercury.

Stadium arcadium we don't see enough of the upbeat songs that have those odd styles.

After listening to Californication yestarday (for the first time in quite a while), I decided I should probably get more into the Chili Peppers. Any opinions on the quality of By The Way and Stadium Arcadium (nerdiest album title ever)?

If you like Californication you'll like By the Way. Stadium Arcadium has a bit of filler on it, being a double album and all.

Surprisingly I found every song to be at least good. But I hate "Dani California" now. Can't stand to listen to it.

And Seinfeld, One Hot Minute is a bit different from the recent stuff because Dave Navarro played on that album, but it's still good. Anything from Blood Sugar Sex Magik and prior is much more funky and less melodic, the self-titled and Freaky Styley being extremely funky. Regardless, the first 5 albums are excellent, in my book, just different. Californication, By The Way, and Stadium Arcadium are pretty much very similar in style if that's what you're looking for.

I don't actually own any RHCP albums, but I picked up some of their better songs from my friend. I think their softer stuff (By the Way, Otherside, Californication, Scar Tissue, etc...referring to songs) is a lot better than their funky stuff--I've just never really been into their early Freaky Styley stuff. I've only heard Dani California off of their new CD, and I thought it was okay...to poppy and a mediocre chorus, IMO. I don't think I'm going to pick it up anytime soon, especially with my growing metal tastes...

I really like the Zephyr Song, although it never really got much popularity...

I've heard One Hot Minute is supposedly a bit harsher/heavier than other RHCP albums. I may check it out anyway (despite its negative press).

Anyway, Californication still had its share of funk-influenced songs (Get On Top and Around The World come to mind). But I noticed the album actually has more of a Latino/Spanish-influenced sound. Especially on songs like the title track and Other Side. I'll listen to By The Way probably tomorrow and let you guys know what I think.

As long as at least half the album's good, I don't mind. Even Californication sort of dropped off after Emit Remmus (which is actually my favorite song on the album) - but then picked up again with Right On Time. I think the Chili Peppers tend to overstuff their albums a little bit. Considering their diversity, they should probably have at most twelve songs per album.

Stadium arcadium is the better album and the return of solos in mainstream music.
