Post subject: WOLFMOTHER : quality revival music from Down Under
PostPosted: Sat Mar 25, 2006 10:03 pm
anyone interested in a Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath type revival band ? yeah ? 8) then check Wolfmother's debut (self titled) album...

it's a damn good hard rocking album like they used to make it the 70's (I also hear hints of Hawkwind, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple)...

nice artwork too :

These guys kinda remind of 70's Sabbath with Jack White on vocals.

My opinion has changed on this band, good music, bad vocals. Jack White, that's the White Stripes dude, right? I hear it, I also hear some of that jackass from The Darkness in this band.

I actually agree on both references... and since I like The White Stripes & I like The Darkness why shouldn't I like Wolfmother too? but, as you said, good music indeed. too bad the vocals doesn't do it for you, it sure does for me! 8)

These guys had an half hour show on TV last night (actually this morning). It was an interview and clips of a live show they played, i thought they were ok but its seems to me that the record company is hyping them up quite a bit. Not many bands have a tv program to advertise themselves. I have to say that kind of put me off them a bit. But these guys aren't bad, remind me of the doors quite a bit, but not as good.

still, the band's not responsible for his label actions.. and what musicians would refuse a big media coverage to support the very music he made with his heart & soul ? that was kind of a stupid comment Stu...

Hey! i'm no retard! i'd say yes! But i just get the feeling of bandwaggon jumping! I know i shouldn't disregard a band for being comercial but i can't help it, thats the way i feel about them! And i don't think it was a stupid comment, it was an opinion, to which i am entitled.

Of course any band would jump at the opportunity, it's not their fault. It's odd what's going on with this genre being pushed on the mainstream. It's nice to see some rock music back on the airwaves rather than the screamo bullshit, but what's going to happen is the same thing that happens with every corporate-pushed product, you're going to get a ton of shit bands that overshadow the good bands.

When I reviewed The Sword's demo here I knew they were getting some hype, but not to the extent of them being in Rolling Stone, on Headbanger's Ball, being hailed as the new Black Sabbath, etc.. It's sort of baffling to me, especially since they're on an indie label! A supposed indie label, of course, I wouldn't out it past a major label to create an indie label. Anyway, the point being that while I really like The Sword there are better bands out there doing this style and, of course, there are bands doing it much worse. Sadly, it seems like the worse bands are those that get the media attention. I don't find Wolfmother to be worthy of all the attention, but their emo singer appeals to the Hot Topic masses, I guess.
